Blackmagic Web Presenter HD Quality

Hello everyone,

I finally got my Blackmagic Web Presenter HD this weekend after almost 4 months.

Unfortunately, I had to find out that the quality when streaming to YouTube is not quite perfect.

Apparently there are render errors with certain motifs.
Test Video

1080P 30 FPS
0:00 to 9:22 & 12:32 to 28:18 Source : HyperDeck Studio Mini 1080P 59,4 FPS
9:22 to 12:32 & Rest source PC via BiDirecional MiniConverter3G 1080P 60FPS

BMD STREAM 1.jpeg
BMD STREAM 1.jpeg (309.9 KiB) Viewed 4975 times

Here the error seems to be caused by the plants in the background.

BMD STREAM 2.jpeg
BMD STREAM 2.jpeg (239.13 KiB) Viewed 4975 times

Also in another perspective and camera the same problem with the plants

BMD STREAM 3.jpeg

Here it starts at the green DI box

Apparently there are still some problems.
Has anyone had any other experience ?

Thanks

I had the same issue with our still image intro (from the beginning of the video):
youtube.com/watch?v=bdZqN8YqXGc
The render error occurs depending on the keyframe-interval setting every x seconds.
And the error occurs independent of what streaming platform I use. I tried YouTube, JetStream and direct stream to ATEM Streaming Bridge. The error also occurs, only using BMD equipment (WP HD -> Streaming Bridge).
BMD: If you need the still image or any other data to analyze, please get in touch!

Hello all,

yesterday I was able to receive my device from support again.
Unfortunately they could not find any problems.

Only unfortunately there were the same problems yesterday in the live stream.

Now I have bought the ATEM Streaming Bridge in the meantime and could also determine the problem here.

I have test loaded some images into my ATEM image memory and tested them here is a good error video here you can see it well.

Now a request to the other ATEM users could you times these pictures in your video memory load and stream. I want to exclude that my ATEM mixer is the problem.

Lars-Eric, did you ever find a solution to this issue as I have started experiencing exactly the same issue.

I noticed a digital tear (glitch) on a static image when streaming via the Web Presenter HD.

mpv-shot0002.jpg (532.08 KiB) Viewed 4069 times

A 3rd the way down the image you will notice a blurry region running the width of the image. This blurry region pulses every 2 seconds and is not noticeable on moving images.

The cadence of these pulses is in direct correlation to the GOP size. In this case I was using the factory setting - YouTube - Streaming High which, as far as I know (and as YouTube requires) the GOP size is 2 seconds. If I match the Streaming High settings and change the GOP size to 5 seconds and upload my user-modified XML** to the Web Presenter HD the pulses occur ever 5 seconds. This glitch is not noticeable on the Web Presenter HD's monitor output.

**Just a reminder that Blackmagic's Support department does not / will not support your Web Presenter HD issue if you are using a user-modified XML file.

Using the factory setting YouTube - Streaming High setting I played a test video from Blackmagic Media Express through a Decklink Mini Monitor 4k and into the Web Presenter HD and got it to stream to YouTube. Once the file had finished playing back I stopped the Web Presenter HD from streaming and immediately started playback of the same file from within OBS and got it to stream to the same YouTube livestream.

From 0m00s to 01m35s is the Web Presenter HD and from 01m36 to 2m50 is OBS.

Has anyone else experienced this type of tear/glitch and know what the solution might be?

Lars-Eric, I have downloaded your test images and have played them through the Web Presenter HD and I have replicated what you are experiencing.

Notice the glitch running over the presenter's noses:

The glitches can be seen all over the lower 2 thirds of the stairs :

It would seem like the Web Presenter HD is incapable of encoding fine, random detail without producing glitches once every GOP. In this case it's once every 2 seconds.

From my YouTube video in my previous thread you can see how the whole screen glitches on the static grid section of the test (38sec from the start where the Timecode is 00:00:20:00).

It also glitches if I have a small strip of static noise.
Glitch that appears within each GOP:

The Web Presenter HD already has many flaws (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=145904) and this glitching issue just adds to them. I hope Blackmagic Design address these issues as I have not been able to use the device because of these issues. Blackmagic Support have told me that the unit is "behaving as expected as the unit is working the way it was designed to work" and would not need any repairs.

I'm curious about the DNS bug and this glitch bug on the new 4K web presenter.
Are these bugs present on new 4K model :?:

Hello Andreas,

thanks for your feedback, from the service I also only received the info that the device worked properly. I was told I should adjust the conditions on site ;-)

Currently I have the 4K Presenter in test mode and can say that this problem in normal operation no longer occur as with the HD version.
In various attempts, however, I could already determine that the 4K variant with other settings is completely unusable (streaming to ATEM Bridge).

But must still perform some tests when the device is back in the office.

I see that but also so that Blackmagic must improve here in any case something.

Hi!

I have the same issue! I saw this glitch appear about two thirds down from one of my cameras in a recent production. It's not present in a local recording of my program output but in the streamed image.

Have any of you gotten any more info regarding this issue?

This definitely isn't a good look for BMD! The original intention of my post was to look for positive reports, but so far it has all been negative.

I've decided to cancel my Web Presenter HD order and look at alternatives. I might have a look at the 4K model first, as Lars above reported that specific glitching problem doesn't appear. I'm surprised BMD is so quiet about this, it certainly looks like a pretty serious issue.

I'm also thinking about buying the Web Presenter 4K so I also want to know if the 4K-one does have same issue. Do you have some problematic footages (which caused glitches on HD-ones) so we can test with Web Presenter 4K?

Best regards
Floh

I recently tested the same still images with the Web Presenter 4K and there is no issue.

Have anyone who have had this issue tried higher bitrates to see if this affects the problems?

Another question Lars-Erik, you described the 4k version as completely unusable. What was the issue with that one?

Best regards

Hello all,

currently the tests are running at our church without any problems with the following settings:
Mixer 1080P 59.94FPS
Stream to YouTube 1080P 30FPS.

I will have the device back in the office on Sunday then I will do some more tests and then report.

I just noticed when I stream to an ATEM streaming bridge with the quality set to High the picture is a complete disaster.

I wanted to make a list of which settings which problems occur with which device.

Hello all,

I have made a list where problems with the marble floor occur.

IO All right
NIO Not in ok
AtemList1.png
AtemList1.png (40.99 KiB) Viewed 3062 times

At the 1080P 50-60 settings, the picture is obviously worse, it feels blurry.

AtemList2.png
AtemList2.png (44.36 KiB) Viewed 3031 times

NIO*1 Error is barely visible in YouTube stream
NIO*2 Blurred image

With 4K Web Presenter, the error occurs in the entire video line, the worse the quality is, the slower the refresh rate is.
In the Streaming High setting, this is not noticeable in our stream.

I hope this list can help you
