URSA Broadcast Camera tally on Jib

PostSat May 01, 2021 2:39 pm

We are using a URSA Broadcast Camera on a jib and need to extend the viewfinder to the operator end of the Jib.
Trying to avoid spending $1700 on a BMD 7-Inch Studio Viewfinder, we used a BMD video assist monitor to accomplish this. however tally is not extended to this monitor. A temporary work around for us is using an extra BMD Micro studio 4k as a tally. Since the tally on the studio viewfinder is external LED's and not on the screen presents a problem extending tally signal, Other than purchasing a studio viewfinder or third party tally system, any ideas to extend the tally from the Ursa broadcast camera?

More often than not we supply jib operators with two monitors. The second monitor carries RTN and fulfills the tally function by extension. It takes our operators a few seconds to change direction so there aren't many surprises.

Jimmy Jib makes a mostly off the shelf kit. The 4 pin to 4 pin cable connects the jib battery/power supply to the control base, the mini trs pigtail is simply spliced into the output of the battery. To delete the proprietary harness use another power supply and extend the taf3 to suit.

As you see in the manual, the ursa broadcast, when used with the fiber converter, has a tally output signal. We used this signal for a lot of tally stuff, like switching a 500W light as a tally to be seen from several hundret feet away.
