Smart Videohub keeps crashing

Having real problems here. Got 4 SDI cameras going through the Videohub with 4 outputs to a Tricaster. The hub randomly freezes on button presses, has to have the power reset to come back to life. There are only SDIs connected, no timecode gen, no usb and no network. Running the latest firmware. Any ideas what the issue may be?

Experiencing the same problem. I have 11 sources and 11 destinations. I have removed the sources and the destinations to eliminate them as a source of the lock up problem.
I am running this unit in Japan on 100v power, but the power supply says it will work on any power, 50 or 60 cycles.
I have installed firmware 5.1.2.
Any suggestions?

Which video hub are you using just for clarification?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with a smart videohub connected to EX3 camera and a tricaster 410
I have 2 source and 2 output sdi connected and the hub is crashing after 5-10s of power.

Have you some solution please?
Regards,
Benjamin

If your device is crashing, I would suggest calling in to your regions tech support office so they can troubleshoot with you on the phone.

I've just upgraded my very-reliable 2-year-old 16x16 Smarthub (the one with the buttons built in) to the current firm-ware and now it's crashing (seizes up: no response to button presses; disappears off Ethernet and USB connections). Cold booting restores it, but only goes 5 to 10 seconds until the next fail. Tried swapping PSUs and tried letting it cool down; no improvement.

This sounds like the same symtpoms as the other Smarthub mentioned back in July.

Has anyone else seen this problem?
What was the resolution, short of sending it back to BMD?
Also, is there a method for rolling back the version?

It gets worse.

I phoned BMD support about the failed upgrade on the 16x16 Smart Videohub router, and was advised as follows:

1) There are known bugs in the v6 Smarthub firmware.
2) Do not install v6 on ANY Hub until it's fixed (in a few days); stay with v5.2
3) Remove v6 from my PC, reinstall v5.2 and force a firmware re-install on to the 16x16 hub.

I tried this but despite it accepting the roll-back to v5.2, the hub still crashes.

I've decided to wait until the sanitised v6 is released and see if it fixes everything. If that doesn't work, the device has to go back for servicing, which may be charged for, including a real possibility it's now totally stuffed/zorched/bricked and will require purchasing a full replacement.

I also wonder whether v6 was ever compatible with this router at all, as it's a discontinued product.
If so, was v6 ever tested on this model before release?
How did a reportedly known buggy firmware update get released at all?
If BMD know v6 is buggy, why isn't there a "read-me" on the support page or inside the download bundle to warn us of what they apparently already know?
Who would be liable for any loss or damage to customers arising from this apparent oversight?

Can a rogue firmware upgrade totally zorch your hardware?
If this has happened, why might I have to pay to fix this?

If not, then the router has survived less than two years in light-duty service before becoming bin-food.
Then, why would I be expected to pay a second time for a pissweak piece of junk?

Another possibility is that this particular Hub might have been running on even-older firmware, and that the last two or three updates were all incompatible with it. I'll try further roll-backs.

All the above scenarios suck. I've abandoned this zorched router for another, to get my work done safely, until the mystery is solved. I'm really glad this fault didn't appear just before a live show!

Either way, I'll keep you all posted on how this interesting problem develops.

BTW, the support folks were very cluey and good to talk to. Time well spent.

color me glad i didn't load 6.0 into my video hubs!! i hope BMD makes this right for you.

on the other hand, i have been using 6.0 on the computer while the hub itself is still running 5.0.5. This is on both of my 40x Compact Videohubs and my 16x Micro Videohub, seems like it works...

i see they updated the video hub software to 6.0.1. Peter did this fix your issues? Anyone else try this yet?

Hi folks,

I upgraded to v6.0.0 from v4.9.5 (May 2013) back in September and initially had no issues in accessing my two Video Hubs (16x16 and a 40x40) across the network.

Today having returned from a few weeks break I can still access both Hubs but am unable to change the Source and Destination labels? There is no 'edit' option available to make the required label changes?

I've just downloaded v6.0.1, uninstalled v6.0.0 and upgraded to this latest version and am still unable to change labels?

In frustration (and an operational need to make name changes ASAP) I've reverted to v4.9.5 and I'm able to do what's required.

Very odd behaviour?

Looks like this fault is ongoing as about 9 years on and multiple firmware updates (version 10 now) later the problem still exists. What is really disappointing is that BMD has not responded to you over that time on what can be done to fit it. Yes, I purchased a secondhand unit unknowingly it had this fault.
