Up Next, a 4K Atem Mini?

PostWed Jun 09, 2021 5:15 pm

Has there been any rumors about a future 4K Atem Mini?

With Atomos Ninja moving towards 5.9k ProRes Raw, and more cameras supporting 4k+ output, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Black Magic to release an Atem Mini with 4k in/out.

I think the ISO with in-camera recording is kind of their solution for this. You could technically switch 8 Ursa 12k cameras, record internally and then add that back into your resolve file.

Yes you have to use Blackmagic cameras but I think that fact works in bmd's favor and it allows them to have 4k recording without charging more for a different switcher and putting time into manufacturing when very few people will actually buy that item.

I think the next development is an update to the ATEM Television 4k. Probably with the features of the 8k constellation like the ATEM Extreme except without the live-streaming capabilities.

Hmmmm. Is there enough market for 4K Live Streaming? We have enough troubles streaming 1080 at 10 Mb/s.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Absolutely.

I'm going back to a PC and OBS if I can't get 4k before the start of next season's hockey.

4k60 and wireless cameras. Mevo Starts. I know the Mevos are 1080, but the main camera we've invested in is 4k60. The PC can do it without much effort. I'd rather have it done on dedicated hardware. Boggles me that the WebPresenter 4k doesn't have HDMI in.

My only drawback at the moment is that 4k60 capture is a pain for now.

I am using a Television Studio Pro 4K for 4k60 hockey streaming.
I was in the same spot and that is by far the cheapest 4k HW alternative. I know that it is an old product now, but the replacement costs twice as much and I did not need many of the new functions.
The result is excellent as long as you have a stable broadband connection.
As mentioned above you have to use 12g SDI converters.

1080P is now the norm.But

My internet provider is constantly giving me higher upload/download speeds.
It is just a matter of time before 4k videos come to YouTube, FaceBook, and others

There is probably a wish list somewhere.
What I want more than 4k is a headset port on all future ATEM switchers.
