Should be awesome - no need for genloc as it is not part of the cameras I don't think... ? May want a "real" com system with good headsets - nothing like just being able to hear effortlessly. Pull the trigger....

Hi.
2 things.
First, are you sure that the you have the correct price for the ATEM broadcast panel, it should be closer to 5000 not 746 dollars.
Second, personally I would not buy the old ATEM 1 M/E but instead the new 4K 1 M/E version. If you need some of the functions that you have in the old one you should be able to find a used one since I think a lot of people with the old ones are changing to the 4K version.

Thanks to both. Currently I'm running a wired PortaCom audio system. Might stick with it. Negative is the headsets always break.
You are right, the cost of the broadcast panel is $4745 and added in the 4K switcher.

I assume you've already got audio handled since you don't have anything listed. I don't see anything about video playback either so I guess that's not a requirement.

You need Tally lights to connect to the Blackmagic GPI/TALLY INTERFACE BOX.
Visit our web site
or Contact me for further discussion of your tally needs
thanks

Audio is taken care off. We currently have Datavideo Tally lights.
Can't we just have video playback off of the 4K switcher?

The video playback inside the switcher are only for short videos (must be a sequence of tga-images) and are more for animated backgrounds and stinger effect not videos. The lenght of videos you can use depends on the resolution the switcher are set to.

What would you suggest for video playback?

Check out Caspar cg, it's free and you can also use it for graphics. You need a computer with an output card, type depending on if you wish to have linear key or not. It will take some time to learn but well worth the time. Website are:

Maybe its just me but i don't think the blackmagic cameras would make great studio cameras. I like having a full broadcast camera which i can control via a CCU. i like having rear mounted zoom and focus controls.
I also agree with the other poster that recommended one of the 4K switchers. They can do HD and they have all the front mounted buttons. Which i wish i had on my ATEM 1M/E.
For video playback i use a mac pro laptop connected via thunderbolt to a BM intensity which sends HD vidoe to the HDMI in port on the switcher.
I also agree with the other post about having a real comm system. I have been using clear comm systems for years and years. The blackmagic systems built into the camera converter are ok, but not great.
To keep cabling down, you can use the tally in the camera converters though. Simply mount the camera side on the top of the camera and there are tallies on both ends so talent and camera operator can see.
however, if you go with a high end comm system and have tally already, you can ditch the camera converter system as you will only need SDI video back to your switcher. Unless you plan on using the return video feeds with an external viewfinder/monitor for each camera.
I also use the hyper deck and they work good.
Saying all that, i work for a government agency and also do a lot of sports production on the side. At home i use a lot of black magic gear. But if you can afford it, i would recommend some none black magic gear.
For recording, AJA ki pros are SOOOOO much better then hyper decks ever will be. But they are expensive.
For a switcher, i love love love Broadcast pix systems. They can do all that the ATEM does and much much much more, including built in dual channel graphics, real built in video play back, built in animation players, 6 keys, up to 22 HD-SDI inputs on the bigger models.
I love these switcher so much i have 3 at work. 2 of the mica models, one in our meeting room, one in our studio, and i have a granite system in our production truck. Other than instant replay these switchers can run an entire sports production in 1 box.
I also recently purchased one to replace my ATEM 1ME for doing live MMA and other sports for my personal business.
Below is a list of gear i put to ether when i built our studio recently.

I know this forum was from a few months back-- did you ever move forward with your studio? I'm building a low-budget studio for my University this coming summer and was considering doing something similar. Did you consider using the new 4K cameras? Is there anything else that you wish you had done/added?
Much thanks!

I moved forward with the funding request - but not purchase. Built the BlackMagic studio with the 4K cameras for around 50K. This included a few other bells and whistles. Waiting to see if my school will fund the project.
