2 Cameras on green screen with different backgrounds

PostThu Oct 31, 2013 1:20 am

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to do an interview on green screen, but for the past few hours I can't seem to figure it out. I want to cut between the 2 cameras with different backgrounds, place a lowerthird, and cut to a third source which would play clips such as bumpers, intros and outros, I have ATEM 2ME.

I would do the following:
  • Use M/E 2 for switching the angles, and M/E 1 for switching between clips and the angles, and keying the CG
  • Put the backgrounds into the media players
  • On M/E 2 program row, select Media Player 1
  • On M/E 2 preview row, select Media Player 2
  • Set key 1 on M/E 2 as a chroma key with Cam 1 as the source. Turn it on.
  • Set key 2 on M/E 2 as a chroma key with Cam 2 as the source
  • In the next transition area for M/E 2, select BKGD, Key 1, and Key 2 (all must be lit up). This will allow you to use the cut and auto buttons , or the fader on M/E 2 to switch between the two angles.
  • On M/E 1, simply set your keys up for your CG as a DSK, and switch between M/E 2 and your video source

If my backgrounds already occupy Media Players 1 and 2, where should I load my CGs? Also I would to have a LIVE bug somewhere

I assumed you had an external CG. Unfortunately, with the lack of media players on the ATEM, you can't do much about that.

I do, but guess I just have to live with it because I can't seem to be able to record a clean feed without the live bug while keeping the lower thirds.

EDIT: just an update, after trying what you told me, I must say I'm very disappointed with the chroma capabilities of the ATEM... very limited. Maybe even more disappointed with my reseller.

Just hit me, I could load both DSKs with the same external CG, and on DSK1 mask out the live bug, on DSK2 mask out the lower third, and then record CLEAN FEED 1 with only the lower third (DSK1) ! I'll look into it tomorrow.

I'm also looking into BoinxTV for keying green, seems to give me more parameters for adjusting the key. Then, I *think* I should do my switching between angles in Boinx .... Please let me know if there's any other affordable software to improve the keying process.

When only cuts are made, give "Just Macros" a try. With this free software you can automate your work.

Eg.g. With one keypress / macro, you switch to camera 1, activate the Chroma key and set the right backgrond. With another, you switch to another camera with an other backgraound and with a third macro, you switch back to "normal work".

Just macros can also control CasparCG (a free character generator software)

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I'll look into Just Macros.

My set up for CG is Mac based, so no chance of using Caspar.
