Only 2 SDI ATEM inputs working

PostTue Nov 05, 2013 7:53 pm

We are having an issue where 3 of our Sony cameras are coming into our ATEM via SDI.
We verified all 3 camera have signal and the BNC cables are all good hwoever the ATEM will not allow us to see 1 of the camera. We tried rebooting the unit and re-installing blackmagic software yet still
no 3rd camera.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

oops The ATEM TV Studio. We do not use any of the HDMI (4) inputs.
Are using (trying) to use the next 3 SDIs.

Did you make sure inputs 3 & 4 are set to SDI and not HDMI on the Settings tab of the control software?

I actually didn't.... I suppose we were just lucky with the first 2?
I appreciate you pointing me into a direction for a remedy.

Many thanks,

Is the fault related to a particular camera or to a particular BNC input on the ATEM or to a particular cable from camera to ATEM? (Test by swapping around)

We already confirmed that all 3 cameras and cables are fine if put into one of the other 2 inputs, however once put into a 3rd SDI, we get nothing. So it must be the input.
But I am going to double-check to see if there is some software setting closing the signal but I have never heard of that before.

I had a problem with a Panasonic HD switcher that a client had hired in from another rental company, and it's 4th BNC-HDSDI input wouldn't stably accept HD signals sent over longer cable runs (which worked fine into its other inputs). Apart from swapping out cameras, cables and inputs, I never got to investigate the problem before the switcher was whisked away back to the rental company, where if not reported as faulty and acted upon, it would no doubt be sent out on subsequent jobs, to the ruination of same...
Maybe it's a obvious as cleaning a tiny bit of dirt out of the BNC socket. Or maybe not.

The TV Studio has 8 physical inputs -- 4 HDMI and 4 SDI -- but only 6 of them can be active at any one time. 1 & 2 are always HDMI, 3 & 4 are either HDMI or SDI, and 5 & 6 are always SDI. So when using inputs 3 & 4, you need to tell the ATEM whether to use HDMI or SDI.

I was hoping for a logically solution and not that our new unit isn't faulty.

Will check out what you described and hopefully we have clean video through new BNC cable, new camera captured by a new capture card installed in a new Macintosh :o)

Faithfully,

i think the days when people read the instructions are long gone. (or even read the marketing material)
it seems much easier to just get on the web and ask someone else who has read the instructions to answer for you.
the first part of my real name is Mr B. if that's not enough for bmd, please cancel my registration to this site. then i will re-register with a new email and fake name anyway.

Calvary Video,

you'll find it at "Setting" or "setup" tab at ATEM control software. There you can toggle inputs 3 & 4 between SDI and HDMI. Don't forget to click "set"-Button ;-)
