Streaming to simultaneous providers

PostTue Dec 07, 2021 6:42 pm

Hello.

I am looking for the best option to stream to 2 providers simultaneously. I am looking at the web presenter but those only appear to stream to one provider at a time. Any suggestions as to how to go about this? Specifically, we are looking to stream to FB and YouTube simultaneously.

This is very commonly done server-side, so you don't need the bandwidth for multiple streams from your location. Examples are Restream, Castr.io, Switchboard live, Livestream (simulcasting-option) etc.

If you want to do it locally you'd probably need a separate device per stream, or a PC based encoder. vMix, OBS and others support multiple streams afaik.

We opted for 2 web presenters - one for each stream. This worked previously with another device. Location has fiber so bandwidth isn't an issue. I have contacted support though because the devices are not working as expected. The on air light/indicator comes on steady but no stream gets to the endpoints. This is a standard YouTube/Facebook set up with nothing fancy. I assume that I am missing something obvious. Cameras input to SDI on one device, SDI loopout into input on second device. When the off button is pressed while on air indicator is steady, there is a several minute delay before "off" is actually implemented. I am presuming a cache issue, so I decreased quality on both streams to low, no dice though. I will spend some time tomorrow tweaking settings in a custom XML config and report back. Any advice in the mean time is appreciated.

YouTube works as expected at this point. Facebook has some jitter, but that is on their end. I am continuing to adjust and tweak config parameters on the FB box to minimize drop. Facebook has an tool to determine the closest/fastest ingress servers, which has been helpful. There are also some settings on the Facebook side that need some attention.
