ATEM Recording + Hyperdeck Videos w/Alpha - Codec Issue

PostTue Jan 25, 2022 10:32 pm

Hi all,

New to the BM ecosystem. I have an interesting problem that I was hoping I could get some clarity on.

Using the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO I can record video directly to my SSD. Perfect.
Using the HyperDeck, I can replay those video. Perfect.

The problem I am running into is if I also place videos on the HyperDeck that contain an alpha channel (animated lower thirds), they cannot be in H264 as it does not support alpha, so I create in ProRes 4444.

The problem is that I cannot access videos from both codecs on the HyperDeck as it requires that I select a single codec in the settings.

So...

Can I change the output codec on the ATEM to any codec that supports alpha?
Can I have the HyperDeck read more than one codec?

Only other thing I can think is that I will have to take the videos from the ATEM and convert them to ProRes manually which seems odd as they should play well together and the HyperDeck has alpha functionality built in with the dual SDI outputs.

Thanks for any advice,
Ian

Get another Hyperdeck OR a Pi4 + PlayoutBee for the MP4 files.
