I hope I am posting in the correct forum. Apologies if I’m not.

So my 3G 7” video assist won’t recognize when I plug the hard drive in. Nothing happens. However it works no problem when I connect the SSD to my computer. The video assist also works on my computer too.

Any info on this is much appreciated!

Only the Video Assist 12G models support recording to USB-C drives. If you look at page 52 of the manual, you'll see that only the Video Assist 12G HDR is mentioned in the description of recording to USB drives:
https://documents.blackmagicdesign.com/ ... 3676402000

On the Video Assist 3G models, the USB port is only for the webcam output feature or for firmware updates via a computer. It's possible that the USB Type C port on the Video Assist 3G models only supports USB 2.0 speeds, since only the Tech Specs pages for the Video Assist 12G models specifically mention that the port is USB 3.1 compatible.

Damn, I should have checked that out before getting it.

I'm going to look in the forums but if you know what the largest/fastest memory cards that the 3G will take, I'd appreciate it.

I'm also going to read the manual... lol

Hi Niall.
Sorry, I'm a bit late to this conversation but, I too have found my BMVA 5" 3G wont see my Samsung T7 SSD.
Although, I've yet to try other formatting options to see if it will work, which I will try in the next few days.

However, I have put a Samsung 512GB EVO Plus Micro SD Memory Card /w Adapter - ‎Model Number: MB-MC512KA into my BMVA 5" 3G and it works a treat.
Gives me about 540 minutes of ProRes 422.
360 minutes ProRes HQ.
and pretty much the same amount of recording time for DnXHD flavours.
