Live streaming quality Atem Mini Extreme ISO

PostSat Mar 05, 2022 5:59 pm

Hi everyone, I'm doing some live streams with my ATEM which works great. In your opinion is this video quality normal?

The output settings are:
Platform: Facebook
Quality: Streaming High 9 Mb/s
Video input signal Full HD 1080p 50

the problem of course is only the streaming and the video program file, ISO videos are great

Thank you and good job to everybody

2 things :

1/ATEM mini do not produce high quality streams .. Especially in low bitrates ..

2/ water sports are high motion material .. 9mb mbps is very small bitrate for 1080p50 ..

I should edit the xml file and increase the bitrate. Blackmagic may already have several bitrates available, only 3 seem few to me

Is the screenshot from a local recording or from Facebook?

Unless you need 50P for a specific reason then consider working at 30P, 4mbps for Facebook Live if your cameras are 30P capable. Excessive data and high frame rates on FB is wasted.

Antonio : Sure .. When U send video to FB, YT, or any other CDN, they allways recompress your video .. So u must send best quality to them .. And dont forget that YT and FB recompress to very low bitrates .. So quality is allways not very good .. VIMEO is much better ..

The screenshot is from Facebook. For fast-moving sports video is it okay to use 30p?

What Facebook displays is recompressed significantly compared to what you send to them.

If the platform you’re sending to maxes out at 30P then there’s no point going higher. If you send 50P to Facebook at 9mbps they will transcode it to 30P and squirt it out to viewers at much much lower data rate.

The normal rules of better in = better out don’t always apply.

Look at your local recording. Does that look significantly better than the mushy Facebook version?

In that case you've confirmed that the ATEM is working fine and Facebook's transcoding/recompression is terrible (and unavoidable).

Here an excellent video that explains why your stream with swimmers in the water is also completely killing the H264 Compression technic. ;)
