Ultrastudio recorder mini not recognizing SDI input format

PostWed May 25, 2022 1:33 am

recently on assignment and the control room gave me an SDI feed, but my Ultrastudio recorder mini did not get any signal. the device was recognized by my macbook in desktop video. I tried several or my units, none worked. I found out the switcher in the venue was set to 1080p 59.94 which seems like an odd setting to me. Even Telestream wirecast does not have that setting. I had my blackmagic 3G/SDI monitor/recorder with me and to my surprise that did get a signal. do I need to update firmware on the capture device?

The original UltraStudio Mini Recorder (Thunderbolt 1 & 2 version) only supported HD-SDI video signals up to 1080p30 or 1080i60, so it did not have support for higher frame rate progressive signals like 1080p5994 (which require 3G SDI).

The newer UltraStudio Recorder 3G (Thunderbolt 3 version) does support 3G SDI video signals up to 1080p60 so it should be able to handle a 1080p5994 input signal without any problems.
