ATEM Setup and ATEM Software Crash on startup

PostMon Jun 13, 2022 5:51 pm

Hello,

I am about to use the ATEM mini from my cameras to my windows into OBS. However, when I double-click the ATEM Setup.exe or the ATEM Software Control tools they are both opening and closing rapidly.

The Atem Setup creates an entry into the Windows 11 Event Viewer:

Code: Select all

The Atem Setup, when double-clicking on the icon, I can see the user interface poping up for about 1 second. I can see "No ATEM found".

The Atem Software Control does not show any user interface. I see in the Windows Event Viewer an error entry:

I am running on a Windows 11 Home machine, Intel 11th generation i7-11700k and the video card is an NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti, driver version 512.95 (latest). The software were working when I was using the ATEM on my Macbook Pro. I have only seen these software issues since I moved to this new Windows machine.

I'd use the uninstaller and reinstall and see if that helps.

Hi Roger Suski,
Thank you for the suggestion. I will give it another shot tonight.

For context, the PC is brand new, thus the ATEM installation is also the latest (8.7.1). That being said, I have nothing to lose to uninstall and install again. I'll write back to give the result.

I uninstalled, rebooted, and installed again with the same result.

I want to stress that the camera is working with ATEM Mini. I can use the ATEM but none of the software. So, a little bit restrictive.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm running in to the same error on a new laptop. ATEM Setup loads for a half second then crashes regardless of whether a switcher is connected via USB. ATEM Software Control simply fails to load at all. Very frustrating. I've tried rolling back to several previous versions of the software but no luck so far.

I think I stumbled across the solution. It seems to be firewall related. I ended up installing on a third computer and a firewall warning came up and I allowed access to the control software. Then I hoped over to the original computer, which gave no firewall warning, and temporarily disabled the firewall completely and both Setup and Software Control launched without issue. I don't know which ports are causing the crash, but will see what I can find out.

I suggest that BMD give an alert for this rather than crash...

Hi,

Has anyone found a solution to this issue? I am running into the same problem. Adding Firewall rules and exceptions have not helped. The both programs are still crushing.

Thank you,

Try disabling the firewall entirely to test. Then uninstall the current software version and install the latest. Reinstall if already running the latest. That did the trick for me. Then I'd suggest turning the firewall back on and adding exclusions, etc... to dial in the right firewall settings.

I have found the source of the issue for me.
I am VirtualBox for some tests, and there was a VirtualBox network interface active that cause my ATEM Software to crash. When I disable the network interface, ATEM Setup and ATEM Software Control work fine.
Thank you,

I have the same problem with Wireguard VPN interfaces, that offer both IPv4 and IPv6. I have two different VPNs, one is IPv4 only and the other one offers both IPv4 and IPv6. When connected to the first one, ATEM Software Control launches just fine. When connected to the other one, it crashes on launch. I have already reported the Bug to Blackmagic Support and they blamed the VPN software, which is ridiculous.

I got this problem as many others. In another forum thread (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=180773) there is an explanation that worked for me.
Make sure to extract the zip file before running the installer.
It used to be possible to run the installer without extracting it first, but that stopped working in the last couple of versions.

So do NOT double click the zip file which will normally open it as if it was a folder. Instead, right click and choose "Extract all" or similar. Then enter the extracted folder and double click the Install script (for me it is called "Install Atem v9.0.2.msi").

Just because I had the same problem even with the newest version. And this thread shows up on Google search as the best option.

For me, it was the wireless network adapter (may be any other interface).
After testing a few options, it finally seems to be the IPv6 option on the interface. If i disable it Atem software starts without any problems, but as soon as I enable it, the software crashes without even showing up for a second.

Maybe this will help someone...
