So finally after 3 years BMD comes with the SDI versions of the Atem mini..

I think that will be the same developer team as those that need to fix the Broadcast panels to talk with the Constellation HD models..

It would be nice if BMD handled PsF correctly.

Yes that is what the BiDirectional 3G does.

Yes, many use cases, this is the missing piece in the lineup. No LCD, long battery life. Just SDI out.

So glad that BM has released SDI versions of the mini line. I've been waiting for SDI to be added. But I'm a little confused as to why HDMI has been completely removed. This is true with the Constellation series as well. It's a little befuddling. Even the multiview in both lines is limited to SDI only, but in my experience, most people use standard HDMI monitors for multiview (why use an expensive monitor for this purpose?).
I frequently have 2 laptops, that I have to plug into my switcher, along with all of my SDI sources and outputs. Are there laptops with SDI output that BM is aware of, because I can't find any. But computers are increasingly becoming standard sources in live switches, so this seems to me to be an oversight.
Currently my lowly ATEM TV Studio HD, is the best switcher I have for most use cases, but it's getting long in the tooth. I have three other ATEM switchers, but the TV Studio is the one I use the most, because of its flexibility. It doesn't have scaling or Supersource, which are the only things holding it back. I understand that I can use converters (I have tons of them), but it seems to me to be very inefficient. That's just more points of potential failure added to the signal path. It also means more power bricks to plug into an already jam packed power distribution.
Is BM going to make a switcher that has both SDI and HDMI with scaling and re-sync on each channel (and possibly Supersource)? Could you, please?

I am confused more by the TRS mic inputs, if professionals use balanced XLR, then why are the ATEM not supporting XLR? It is a standard going back to before Henry Ford and his Model T.. Everyone has XLR...

On that point, if BMD is reading posts, either provide the connector XLR to 3.5mm or better swap the 2 mic inputs for USB so we can use the $1 Fisher Price my first mics.. No HDMI, and no XLR... seems a bit of an awkward design.. If it had 1 XLR for the junior, 2 for the teenager, and 2 for the big dog, along with HDMI, that sort of makes sense... now? Can someone explain the TRS/3.5mm ??

Yes, the audio jacks are also an issue. I don't often bus audio to my ATEM mini switchers, but when I do, I have to rig up a DI in reverse. Quite annoying, but if I don't use this method, I tend to get noise from the multiple adapters required to make the conversion.

Now, if only we could get all future models to have both SDI and HDMI for all inputs, with a hard switch for selection.

It makes sense to include HDMI on all ATEM, as it is functional around the world, so is having XLR inputs for mics, SDI maybe on certain models, just why BMD has this hatred of XLR is confusing.. Or is XLR no longer a standard connector? Why not RCA? RJ45? It is just a cable+connector and the respected receiver that has to match..But there is no reason for any decent pro or semi pro device to be using 3.5mm mic inputs.. USB would be better..

Since the introduction to the AMP I’ve thought the ideal box would be something more like…

Discrete ports for;
Stream rj-45
Multiview HDMI
USB record or playback
Output SDI
Aux SDI
XLR in bal line/mic

In a 1RU enclosure or a TV Pro panel at 2x the price.

So many products yet still no all in wonder.

You mean you cannot route audio to desired SDI Output as you ssihned the Video source to output? If so, from the viewpoint of BMD, is that a bug or feature?

Nice announcement, by the way. Now a Constellation with 4K would fill the gap between HD and 8K and I’ll buy it.

yes, that works. the outputs all send the control signals over SDI, just add an SDI distribution module

ALL Atems have only stereo audio output .. On all output is the same audio .. On Constelation 8K u have 24 outs .. All have everytime same audio ..

Even on 8K? This doesn't make much sense. I examined and found its a "feature" since the Description clearly says: "All 12G‑SDI outputs contain embedded program audio". So better work with separate audio mixer then.

ALL outputs have the same mix regardless of source. Changing this behavior is probably the #1 feature request for the Constellation since it’s release.

YES.. ALL Atems only output 1 Audio source.. PGM audio.

Even if you direct route an input to an AUX. You get PGM audio underneath that.. And not the original audio from the source that you route..

To clarify , u can send MIX MINUS audio to outputs ..
