Questions on new Constellation Models (Routing & Fan Noise)

PostSun Aug 07, 2022 4:20 pm

Hi,

we're thinking about purchasing one of the new ATEM Constellation HD switchers but have two questions on them on which we cannot find answers in the web or manual:

1. Do they have fans and if yes are the fans silent enough to be in the same room with the recording microphones? -> We had severe problems on that topic with our Television Studio HD in the past.

2. Is it possible to route one input to many outputs? And is routing also possible without being one of the mixes? -> We'd like to get rid of our Smart Videohub but are not sure if the Constellations switcher has the features to replace it.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

There are fans, but they are quite quiet for the normal part, but can become noisy if they spin up due to heat build-up. If you provide good airflow / space around the mixer in the rack, they probably won't be too much of a problem.

Yes, you can route any video input to any of the twelve outputs, but only with the Main L/R Audio-mix.

Thank you for the quick reply. Do you see any other disadvantages of using an ATEM Constellation HD 2 M/E instead of e.g. a 20x20 Smart Videohub?

Thanks!

Which is a good reason to integrate the Videohub rather than replace it.

I'd say that any fan noise is a detriment to audio recording, the unit should be moved outside the room used for recording.

Good Luck
