Bidirectional, HDMI In = SDI Out AND SDI Loop Out?

PostTue Aug 16, 2022 8:07 pm

So I have the HDMI input into one of there new 3g bidirectional converters. I have the sdi out but I'm not getting the sdi in to become an sdi loop out.

I thought that if I had only one input then the other two connections will become outputs. Is that not correct?

Hi, nope. It works BiDirectional.

In is always in and same out is always out. You can use bidirectional which means (if you plug in in both Inuts):
What goes in HDMI-IN, will go out on SDI-OUT and Viceversa, what goes in SDI-IN, will go out on HDMI-OUT. This means you have two independent converters in one device (HDMI to SDI and SDI to HDMI).

Now I‘m not sure if its only for 12G or if this also works for 3G (could someone confirm?):
If you only plug in one Input, then both outputs (HDMI & SDI) will have same content.

Best regards

If only one input is connected the 2 outputs HDMI/SDI become outputs, the input stays an input and will override the loop if connected. The text is a little confusing because there is only 1 loop output, the other output is the conversion output.

That loop function caught me out last week. I was installing a new Constellation HD 2M/E system and had used 4 of the bidirectional units to provide HDMI in and out to various equipment. Thought space saving and cheaper rather than using seperate ones for each channel. Couldn’t work out why I kept getting wrong images in odd place’s. Colleague soon pointed out that I was getting a loop back on these on any that had no signal on the HDMI! It would be great if you could turn the function off!

When U use HDMI input , then loop is HDMI OUT ..

If U need HDMI -> 2x SDI OUT , use microcoverter HDMI to SDI ..

ok thanks for the replies. I just need the hdmi in converter. I thought the bi-directional could do everything but I guess it is only an HDMI loop out

So I'm having a similar problem. I'm going from SDI-3g signal into a Bi-Directional, no SDI output. I'm only getting HDMI from the HDMI out. I thought the HDMI in port would become a loop out...but no signal is coming from it.

Ah, I'm tracking now! thank you. For some reason I thought it would act as an HDMI splitter when there was no input to the HDMI-in port
