Teradek Vidu go and ATEM Mini streaming

PostWed Sep 21, 2022 9:37 am

I have an ATEM Mini Extreme and just got a good price on a Teradek Vidu Go for bonded streaming. The Teradek requires an HDMI as input (it’s an older model without SDI). I’m currently using one of the Mini’s HDMI outputs for the multi view and have the other HDMI output attached to a hyperdeck for recording. Is there some easy way for me to get a third HDMI output from the mini to the Teradek while still maintaining the other two HDMI outputs as they are (these are prewired in a flight case)? Obviously, I could disconnect the hyperdeck and record via the USB-C output, but I’m trying to avoid this. I could run an HDMI splitter for the program output and put one line to the hyperdeck and the other to the teradek, but I’m unsure what this will do to quality and whether these is some easier way.

TIA

An HDMI splitter sounds like it is probably the best bet. As long as you get a simple splitter without any kind of scaling capabilities, then it should not affect the video signal at all and functions much like a reclocking distribution amplifier would.

Some of the newer 4K HDMI splitters include down or upscaling capabilities for compatibility with both HD and 4K equipment depending on the signal format, so you may want to avoid those and just get a simple 1x2 or 1x4 split model or however many outputs you need.

Another option if you have a HyperDeck with an SDI input, would be to use a Micro Converter BiDirectional 3G (or 12G) as these have both HDMI and SDI inputs and outputs. So you could use this as a signal splitter out of the ATEM and send the HDMI output to the Teradek Vidiu and the SDI output to the HyperDeck.

You could also use the HDMI output from the HyperDeck and send that into the Teradek I suppose, but this could be problematic if you ever put the HyperDeck in playback (rather than record mode) as then the HyperDeck playback video would be sent into the streaming device.

HDMI spliter is road to hell .. when one output is disconected , secondary output get new synchronisation .. U can get drop in record or something else ..

HDMI out from hyperdeck is good point, for me :)
I think , U want record & stream simultaneously ..

I like the idea of the micro converter bidirectional 3g - sending the HDMI to the Teradek and SDI to the Hyperdeck. I see no reason for any quality degradation that way. ...and the blackmagic converters are USB C powered, so I can get a single multi-outlet USB C charger to power that, the teradeck, a Hollyland receiver, and a laptop.

If anyone knows why this would be problematic, let me know. I think I'll order the converter.

Thanks
