Sending quality audio to ATEM switcher- via 3.5/camera/hdmi?

PostSat Sep 24, 2022 7:30 pm

I bought the ATEM Mini Pro ISO this week for production of live streams and later editing of music videos, using three cameras.

My audio channel is usually a stereo pair of condensers (Neumann KM184) connected to Sound Devices Mixpre 3 II, which is perfect for location work. However it always needs to be synched with the video. I see that there are two 3.5 inputs on my switcher, which I tend to avoid using for sake of audio quality - but it would be saving me the synching issues that may be a problem (and may be not?).

I read yesterday in this forum that I could also route the audio from the Mixpre via hdmi to an hdmi inserter, which will "fit" the audio signal on one of the video inputs. which solution is "best"in terms of workflow, quality and flexibility in post?

Thank you!

I don't have any experience inserting audio into an HDMI line.

However, I am taking a balanced audio feed at +4DBu via XLR, connecting it to an ART Cleanbox pro to convert it to an unbalanced -10DBv 3.5mm stereo and plugging that into the Mic in. I'm very happy with the results.
