Camera Fiber Converter won't update

Two of my five Camera Fiber Converters are unable to update. I can connect them to both Mac and PC, they show up in the Camera Setup utility, but when I go to update the firmware (from 1.3 to 2.0.3), I see error "Update Failed! Please check your connections and try again." It is the same problem on both units.
If I use the same cables with another unit, it hooks up just fine.
Is it possible the firmware is so out of date it won't allow an update through the utility? Is there a manual way to update these pieces?
