Recording on atem mini from constellation?

PostTue Jan 24, 2023 5:05 am

We like the new constellation ATEM 2. We're comparing it to the ATEM SDI extreme iso to transition from SlingStudio.

We don't care that the constellation doesn't stream. We've tried streaming on 'high' from the ATEM mini pro and don't feel it's very good compared to the results we have been getting with Sling. When we transition from Sling to an ATEM we'll stream another way.

However we will miss being able to record every input on the constellation like the mini extreme iso does. Would this make any sense- splitting the SDI inputs to the constellation and routing the second one to an SDI extreme iso just for the purpose of recording? An extreme that can record 8 inputs is cheaper than a lot of hyperdecks.

I've gotten more experience with the ATEM mini pro streaming. It's different than Sling because with Sling you can just input a specific bitrate (both for the live stream and the cameralinks). But we are now getting results comparable to Sling.

Slingstudio combined a lot of features for something that's 4-5 years old now (and orphaned evidently). Wireless cameras, seeing all camera feeds on the iPad that does the switching plus a program hdmi out, tally lights, wifi, recording all cameras to usb and streaming.
