New HDMI to SDI Converter... I'll gamble and let you know.

PostTue Jan 21, 2014 12:03 am

... Interesting find online (and then subsequently found on ebay):

(oupree dot com)/OPR-HS104-HDMI-TO-SDI-Converter.html

that ebay place... /itm/HDMI-to-SDI-Converter-HDMI-switch-to-3G-HD-SD-SDI-Signals-Supports-1080P-60Hz-/161189062389?

Apparently it supports 1080i. (and thus may be an affordable way of adding 2 channels to the TVS)

I'm willing to take the gamble. I just purchased one, I'll let you guys know in a month if they work or not. They look like a fairly new addition to the market.

Thoughts?

Hello,

I'm really interested in knowing if this converter works or not. Have you received yours and already tested it?

Thx in advance.

Output 1080i from my PC into the Oupree box (on the floor to the right), then through a short RG-59 cable into input 5 on my ATEM TV Studio, You can see the output on the screen.

Hi folks, just to add to this post. We've been using these cheap hdmi to sdi and sdi to hdmi converters from china for some time. We've had more problems with poor connections of the hdmi lead into the TVS than the converters. Converters have never failed us yet. Makes a very reasonable way of making all of your inputs and outputs sdi on the TVS.

I usually set all my gear up on the exact same bedspread!

Good to hear about this ultra cheap alternative. Thanks for getting back with us.

Thanks for the follow up.

I found some SDI to fiber converters on flea bay for ~$200 which is a damn good price if it works. Might pull the trigger on that. A Telecast Rattler set goes for $1335. There's actually a seller on Alibaba that has a product that looks pretty much identical to the Rattler and they are selling for $630. Still not bad.

I tested another brand last week. Worked very good. It had a Up/Down/Cross and framerate conversion internally. I could set it up to output 1080I 50 all the time no matter what the input signal was. And settings remained after power cycle.
A nice solution for input devices that have framerates or resolutions that differ from your ATEM settings.

Inputs were: DVI-A, DVI-D, HDMI, VGA, Component, S-Video, Composite video to SD-SDI/HD-SDI/3G-SDI
Did some test with an analog camera to 1080I50 and also HDMI to 1080I50. Didn't look bad at all.

It was called Multi2SDI
Got it off some dutch company (not sure if i may tell there name in here?!)

They also had cheaper models that do hdmi2sdi or sdi2hdmi

It sounds like these drastic-plastic suppliers from China have out-Blackmagicked BMD at their own game, undercutting existing expensive suppliers of glue products with better-value alternatives.

I've got some coming from eBay China as well. Wait and see!

Time for BMD to release a trustworthy but cheapo drastic-plastic product series, and outdo everyone else.

This is a conversation best had on the forums of the vendors you're referring to.
