New videohubs

PostTue Apr 04, 2023 8:10 am

Do you seen this?
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... icvideohub
New 12G Videohubs !

So i have a question:
Whats the "advanced Feature" of the Shortcut Buttons?

BM says:
" Plus if a button uses a dedicated input label, then they will act like a cut bus! "

Does that means, this is like an really switcher?

But what is the Feature of:
" Plus if a button uses a dedicated input label, then they will act like a cut bus! "
????

Only BM Marketing?
Or a real Feature?

These are great upgrades however I was surprised they did not have an 8K version.

Would be nice if these would be available as HD-only models as well.

I might miss some points, but what is the difference between the Videohubs vs. ATEM Constellation HD devices?
For what use cases should I use Videohubs?

I rather would have seen 64x64 or larger.. We already have a 40x40 12G.. And its just too small for an medium setup.. ;)

I agree with Xtreemtec. No router upgrades for years, and when they finally do they don't up the capacity to at least a 64x64 or a 72x72?

They are pushing me towards investing in an Ultrix (I know this isn't an apples to apples feature set between the two systems) because I need capacity and 40x just doesn't cut it for my medium sized shows. Add to that no multiview pips, audio dembedding or salvos, and this is just a very lackluster upgrade for me. I don't even USE the front panel of the router, I care not about any of those features.

I could live without all the extra functionality of the Ultrix if BM released a 96x96 videohub!

80x80 with an optional ability to gang groups of 4 inputs/outputs to switch at the same time for use with 8K 12G-quad-link? So you can either run at 80x80 4K or 20x20 8K. I was really hoping that a refresh of the line up would have brought a new larger model.

It is a problem as the Backplane design of those 72 and 288 units wont cut it for 12G-SDI... ;)

Currently you have the Kumo 64x64 which is about 11,5K
And if you need to go bigger this is your option.....

indeed, they obviously need to redesign the whole thing...

Currently you have the Kumo 64x64 which is about 11,5K

that one feels too expensive when compared to the $4.5k or so for the 40x40

and that one is in the "you can't afford it if you need to ask for the price" category

We use one 40x40 as an Input matrix , and one 40x40 as an Output matrix in OBVAN .. But its not ideal ..

Far from ideal.. We already use several DA's behind it to distribute signals.. And also a lot of manual patch fields as 40x40 is just waaaay too small.

In my opinion BM REALLY missed an opportunity to add a Multi View output on the new VideoHub units as well. This would have been incredibly useful!

Do the new Routers and Software allow 'Salvos' (multiple source & destinations to be pre-defined) to be created?

It's based on the names you give to the inputs and outputs. So you e.g. define inputs 5, 6, 7 and 8 to be DECK 1 through DECK 4. Then you can press the DECK button followed by 3 to select input 7.
The name DECK (or any other name) can be self defined. The units come with standard names but you can take off the keycaps of the buttons and put your own labels under it that match the names that you define for the inputs and outputs in the software.
