New User Getting Started Problems

PostMon Apr 10, 2023 5:27 am

Hello,

I'm a newbie (in almost every possible way) using the Television Studio HD8 ISO for the first time. I have a bunch of problems getting started but the main ones are:

1. Using a Sony a6400 camera with a Micro USB output. I'm using a Micro USB to HDMI cable, plugged into an HDMI to SDI converter, plugged into Camera 1 input. Don't see any video output in monitor plugged into multiview port. The camera screen says to check the output device. What am I missing?

2. I have two Shure mics plugged into a cloudlifter preamp and then into the XLR audio inputs on the TV Studio HD8. Can't seem to get any sound coming in to the HD8. The sound level readouts do not register any sound. The mics and cloudlifter worked great for years when plugged into a Rodecaster.

3. Is there a YouTube training video for novices to help me learn what I'm doing?

Thanks!

Richard

I would approach the job like this:

1. Use a camera with an HDMI output.

2. Run the mics through an audio mixer. Feed that output to the switcher.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

For your first point, the camera outputs video over the "Micro HDMI" port below the Micro-USB port; you'll need to get a micro-HDMI to HDMI adapter for video output. (There is a difference between "mini" and "micro" HDMI, make sure you get a "micro" adapter.

As for the Cloudlifters, these devices require 48V phantom power, which the Rodecaster can provide, but the ATEM cannot; to my knowledge, no ATEM switcher supports this.

You could either get the new ATEM microphone converter, or get a small analog mixer that can provide phantom power to sit before the ATEM in the signal path.

Hope this helps!
