Static Electricity

Has anyone ever experienced unexpected issues with static electricity? If so, what was your solution? I had an event recently that once everyone was in the auditorium, I had severe issues with static electricity to the point my atem unit was essentially useless.

What kind of floor was it, carpet? rubber? wood?
What specifically happened to the atem...shut off? acted funny?
Full disclosure: I have no solution for you...although staying grounded ought to fix the problem...I'm more just curious what the actual situation was like.

Please elaborate... Sources not showing up or taking hits? Unit wouldn't boot? Don't mistake issues with static electricty for those caused by ground-loops or bad power.
