Recording 3-4 cams individually + Program question

PostSun Apr 23, 2023 8:04 am

I'll be right up front. I have 30+ ears as a mercenary IT consultant with very little video experience/skills. We record single stage music festivals and live bands at small to medium venues. We've had no issues...yet, but I'm about to ask more out of my rig/equipment, and the research I did in these forums has me worried. I'm hoping that because we are using only 1080p PTZ cams we won't have problems. So, listed is the rig/equipment I have for context, and then I have some questions. BTW, we started on a budget and as we grow in use and knowledge I'm sure I'll be upgrading things. Right now, we are filling local niche and while not small time, we sure ain't big time.
  1. 2 x 20x auto tracking 1080p PTZ cams
  2. 2 x 30x 1080p Cams
  3. ATEM Mini Pro, but waiting for the Mini Extreme ISO to land on my doorstep
  4. Decent POE switch
  5. Wifi Router
  6. PTZ Contoller
  7. 1TB SSD USB-C
  8. 100 ft CAT6 and optical HDMI to each cam
  9. I also have drones and gimbals, but those only come into play in post.
  10. Wherever we film, there is already a sound board and sound engineer
  11. We as have a good number of stage lighting Laser, RGB, Cans, full motion, etc, but not germane to this post
  12. We only record with 3 cams at a time or just 1 (one of our venue has an outdoor stage and a smaller indoor stage)

  1. Since we have been working with just the ATEM Mini Pro, we obviously can only record Program, but once I get the Extreme ISO I want to record each cams output and program. I saw a lot of concern with bandwidth, but I'm hoping since we are only passing 1080p we shouldn't have an issue. Haven't had one yet, but haven't got the Extreme and tried to record 3 cams plus program separately. Am I going to run into any landmines with this concern?
  2. I have already seen through other posts that having NDI cams is nice, as long as you use IP + HDMI with ATEM, otherwise if I want to drop the HDMI cable I need to use a virtual switch such as OBS. Correct?
  3. Other concern is if I'm using a PC - and I have a BEAST of a gaming rig - and I want to record to it instead of the SSD connected with the USB-C it seems I need a capture card (or multiples?). I can't just run the USB-C from the ATEM into a USB-C port on PC and expect to record diddly. Correct?
  4. My partner is a Full Sail grad and he's adverse to virtual switch's, and claims physical switch is the best way, I disagree given that NDI/just IP is not supported by BMD. I guess this is not a question, just more of an opinion, plus like I said, I'm an IT guy.
  5. Our goal is to start live streaming soon. I use a 5g hot spot so I don't have to rely on some venues crappy internet. From what I've described, am I going to run into any landmines live streaming to Twitch? Must I us PC to live stream?

Thanks to anyone in advance for tackling our concerns.

I know images in forum posts is bad etiquette, but if anyone is interested, I'll send you tickets to our Memorial Day Festival on Saturday May 27th, 2023. It's in north central Florida, right by Ginnie Springs.
Sorry for the size of the image, I've reduced it by 5%, but still shows up large.
