Surprise: ATEM H.264 capture overwrites existing file

PostTue Oct 16, 2012 7:56 pm

I was using the ATEM H.264 encoder over USB to ATEM control panel capturing to an external USB drive.

After setting up the capture to native format and assigning a file name recording started without any problems. During a pause in the event I stopped capture, and then restarted capture again.

I was more than a little surprised after the event when I realized that the ATEM Control panel had deleted the first part and saved the second part under the same file name.

Call me naive, but I expected either (a) a warning about overwriting an existing file, or (b) an increment on the file name such as capture-1.mov, capture-2.mov etc.

Am I doing something wrong here or is this just nuts?

Reported in a prior post... seems to have changed how it works subsequent to a firmware update. I'm with you... it would be mightily upset for this to happen. File names should always be automatically incremented. Work around currently is to manually alter the file name before each record session.

You might want to search the forum to find the full discussion.
