Hi!
I'm looking for solution to use laptop as a field monitor and capture device for DSLR. With camcoders it was possible to use Adobe OnLocation and laptop with IEEE1394 for this. But now DSLRs have only HDMI.

Is this possible to use Intensity shuttle usb 3.0 with Media Express for make my laptop (with ssd and usb 3.0) to work as field monitor and as a capture device for DSLR?

For example, if I have Canon 7D and Sony VAIO SVD13223CXB (1920 x 1080, 128 SSD, 4Gb, 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-4200U, Intel HD Graphics 4400) will they connect and work with Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0?

Thank you!

Probably not, the USB 3 shuttle is very hit and miss on which laptop it will work on. Also are you trying to do what frame rate are you wanting to do and is it interlaced or progressive?

Guys, thank you for your replies!
I'm ready to have problems with capture. If Canon 7d has problem with hdmi out I probably will cange it :D .

What about field monitor? Does Media Express this job well? Will it be possible to control depth of field and focus on my laptop during the shoting? Is there delay of video in Media Express? What is the resilution in preview window inside Media Express?

Strange thing about Intensity is the lack of production review. There are a lot of video about capture video from Sony PS. But I couldn't find any review about capturing from camcoder or dslr. Although capturing video with better compression is one of the point for this device. What's wrong with youtube ;) . I can't believe no one tryed yet to do this.

If someone tryed can you, please, tell about results?

Thank you!

The Canon 7D will only output 1080i 60hz even with changing the format in the record option as soon as you hit record it will drop to NTSC SD. If you run Magic Lantern on it you can remove all of the lines but you still get an HDMI output that's got the bars on it I think its 1440 x 1080 will have to check to confirm. Windows 8.1 64 bit does seem to have fixed the issue with the USB 3.0 Drivers for Intel chips have tested quite a range of Pc's and managed to get USB 3 Capture working.

The newer USB 3 driver does seem better in 8.1, but there's still an issue on laptops where most of the other devices such as wireless, Bluetooth, webcam etc are all routed through the same USB chip, and they can interfere with the shuttle.

Thank you for this information!
As I understand the situation is a little strange. Intensity works. Laptops probably work. DSLRs have some problems with HDMI output.
Resume:
Probably I will get live monitor function. But capture will probably doesn't work well.
