HyperDeck Extreme connect FTP via Mac Finder

PostThu May 25, 2023 3:39 pm

So we have a set of HyperDeck Extreme 8Ks at a remote studio with residential internet. After a recording/event, we usually connect to the HyperDeck via Fetch FTP to then transfer all the clips onto an external RAID on a computer in that remote studio, then transfer all the clips off the RAID to our studio via Media Shuttle (if transfer fails, it can pick back up and we can see the transfer speeds).

Our problem is that sometimes, when we lose power out at the remote studio, the RAID has to be physically turned back on, which isn't always possible, so we thought that if we connect to the HyperDeck as a "server" in the Mac Finder (which should act then as a mounted network drive) and then upload to Media Shuttle straight through that connection, by passing the need to transfer first to the RAID. In theory, we believe this should work, and sometimes acts like it will, but then the connection will hang up and Finder has a pop up saying would we like to disconnect. This happens regardless if we are actually transferring anything or if it's just connected and not doing anything.

BM support said that all they know is that the HyperDeck can only connect over FTP, but best we can understand is that the Mac Finder connect to server feature is doing FTP protocol. Support said to look on the forum to see if anyone else has dealt with this scenario and if so what worked or didn't?

Thanks
