ATEM Audio Crossfade

PostWed Oct 17, 2012 1:09 pm

Last days i had a deeper view into some of the ATEM audio features.

1. Audio Crossfade (AFV)
I am wondering why the ATEM switchers does not do an audio crossfade while a transition on program bus is running with AFV (audio follow video)?
It is only activating the related inputs (on/off). While the transition is running both sources are passed through with full level.

Todo: AFV-Sources should always be crossfaded (with the transition level of the associated video) during a transition. FTB should also fade in or out the audio. DIP-Transition should first fade out audio A then fade up audio B.
Why? Smooth audio transitions. Needed for master control applications and production.

I agree, this is a most necessary feature! Have audio crossfades been addressed recently?

my 2ME does crossfades. well its a VERY quick fade up when tally received, and equally fast fade down when tally is lost. better than a hard cut but if you are looking for smooth transitions nothing beats a trained mixing human...

Re: ATEM Audio Crossfade

Many months ago (almost a year!) I built a little standalone box for a specific job that controlled the ATEM audio from the vision control.

It worked by initially setting the individual audio faders default levels and then turning on the required audio channels.

Then the vision TBar and input buttons from ANY panel controlled the audio faders positions.

If a video input was selected, its associated fader went to the preset level MINUS the fader position.
So if the TBar was all the way over one side, the audio fader would be at its max (its initial setting).

If the TBar moved, the respective audio faders would increase (for the 'going to') and decrease (for the 'coming from'). Also known as a 'cross fade'.

I also remember starting on the 'dip' code where it would fade out then fade in but never finished it because it wasn't required for the job. I also vaguely doing the FTB code. That was oh so many beers ago!

The project was for a 'Master Control' switcher installation.

I am willing to resurrect the project if you are willing to part with some cash!
