Audio delay unit with Atem

PostThu Jan 30, 2014 1:49 am

Hi Atem users,
I'm setting up a 2 cam+2 generators+4 mic+2 stereo Atem studio to do webcasts. I'm looking for a rack mount unit that would help me delay the stereo feed that goes from the audio board to the ATEM to match the latency of my cameras (BMPCC).

A stereo delay would do for now. I don't need a per-input control. Thanks!

I use a computer audio interface with a variable delay plug-in insert. I use the m-audio lightbridge with protools 9 with a laptop with firewire. This also allows me to record 32 audio channels for live and or post audio mixing.
connect the S/PDIF out to the AES/EBU input on the ATEM (48kz/24bit). On the master fader set the output to S/PDIF. Insert a software delay plug-in on the master fader and experiment with the timing. record a sample with media express. Import the recorded video with a video editor to better see what changes are needed by slowing down the video.
Unchecked the mirror spdif in the hardware control panel so I don't hear the the audio twice on delay with the headphone.
I monitor the video / audio with media express, but it has a lot of delay. I have also set up anther post fader mix by creating a send to a different line out/headphone to monitor with out latency to focus on the mix.

how about sending your mix from your board to a camera's mic input and solo that channel in the atem control panel?

THanks Pytkin, this is exactly what I was looking for. I would have love a half-rack but it will do!

The Teranex 2D of BlackMagic has an audio delay function (since update of dec. 19) is a 19" sized model and gives you even a huge amount of compression facilities for broadcast recording or projection. Win-win.
I love it and use it with all my productions.

how about this thing for audio delay...

http://www.avtoolbox.com/ap411.shtml

and to convert its output to AES for the TVS…you will need a RCA to BNC adapter

cheap, but they work

A second on the Eurocurve - the menus can be daunting but it does a lot for the money.

The Geffen A to D audio unit is converting unbalanced audio to SPDIF. Not AES.

ATEM also works with SPDIF (My ATEM does). Some people here can confirm...
