ATEM TVS EUB Audio Options
Just wanted folks to know that I have discovered a couple of POSSIBLE low-cost solutions for bringing external audio into the ATEM TV Studio. I purchased a little A/D converter online which converts RCA stereo in to SPDIF out (make sure you get right one and not the D/A converters which seem to be more common) for less than $20 along with an RCA to coax cable ($5), and I can now bring external audio in without the suggested Behringer SRC2496.
I am able to see and adjust the audio in the ATEM Control Panel and the Media Express interface. Note that this is a quick a dirty solution that does not account for delays, so it might not be right for most people. The SPDIF signal into AES/EUB is hit or miss. There is a good Rane application note on this.
I have also verified that the SPDIF on the Tascam US-800 audio interface also works (Inputs 3&4 - watch out for phantom power!). That approach gives you headphone monitoring, volume adjust, and perhaps some delay control through latency, if you have it connected to a computer. I have not verified that yet; since I have been running it in standalone mode.
I use the TASCAM DR-40 field recorder as my input into my A/D and that has built-in delay on the inputs (with the FW upgrades). I haven't tested that fully yet either. Still have some work to do.
Just putting this out there, so that if you have this equipment or similar, you can give it a try before going out and investing in additional gear. Will post more after further testing.
BTW, I'm not affiliated with TASCAM, and I'm not promoting their products.
