ATEM SDI Extreme ISO FROZE UP DURING LIVE EVENT

PostSun Oct 08, 2023 9:13 pm

Hi Everyone!

First time on the forums and I'm having a problem that I cannot find a solution for online . . .

I've been running church live streams all day using the ATEM SDI Extreme ISO. Been doing so since January of this year (2023) and have encountered this issue only once before and from what I can find, it may be an overheating issue . . .

The app on my Mac froze up as well as the ATEM Switcher . . . It's still running and the camera I have on Program is still there and the stream is still up. Audio is still sending to the stream and the record seems to be running as well . . . However, I cannot cut or take any shots in Preview in fact, none of the physical buttons are responding at this time. I'm also sending an Output to screens in several rooms and do not want to unplug the device and power it back on, but I'm also worried that the record will become corrupted when the event is over . . .

Is there nothing I can do?

What could I possibly do in the future? A stand, a fan underneath the ATEM? Any advice would be great!

Thanks for your time.

Had the same thing happen to me with a Constellation 2 M/E this weekend. Still sent video to multiview, M/E 1, and stream, but ATEM Software Control was unresponsive, the audio meters on multiview were frozen, and front panel controls were inoperative. Not an overheating issue as I was outdoors on a fairly chilly day, operating in the shade on a plastic table.

My immediate suspicion was an A/C power issue doe to running on a generator, but everything else ran fine including an ATMOS recorder. Perhaps that's not the problem.

Reboot the switcher.

(Happened to me recently as well.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Buy a more reliable (more expensive) brand.

I mean, BMD stuff is really good for the price. But it's more like entry level broadcast than top tier broadcast.

We sort of "get what we pay for" here.

Haha, copy that man! It's happened to me twice and, yes, the rebooting always works . . . Had hoped for a fix when in the middle of production, but sounds like there isn't one. Thanks for you time!

Ah, yes, I hear you! I'm used to using TriCaster / NewTek hardware at my previous place of employment . . . This new place only has limited funds and this is what I walked into lol
Totally agree . . . Guess it's just the hand I've been dealt.

Thanks, folks, for the responses.

Sounds like there isn't much to be done except reboot and move on . . . OR get something more expensive :D :D :D

Appreciate your time.

Did you found a solution?

I have the same problem with a ATEM Mini Extreme and a ATEM Mine Extreme ISO !

Both after several hours of streaming in setting "streaming high" and recording on external ssd
- the cache slowy fills up
- streaming and recording buttons are frozen

Could be overheating issue?
We had room temperature of 27°C.
