Hi All,
I have a question - I use ATEM1 switcher and I'm looking for a solution for tally signal. If I buy ATEM Camera Converters for each camera and use SDI cable to connect ATEM1 with camera converters will I receive tally (red, green) on external camera monitor?
Do I have to buy whole set - camera converters, studio converters and fiber connection?

I believe you only get Red tally on the camera converters. I don't think it does the green.

You don't need the studio converter, but if you're using 3-4 cameras, it would be beneficial for wiring and centralized communication.

To use the camera converters, yes, you need the whole smash. Now granted, if you're doing 1-2 cameras, you can get four camera converters, (one on each end, so two per camera) and have tally.

If you don't need fiber, get the Tally/GPI interface. We got that, as well as a pair of DataVideo Tally light packages, which have the sender and four LED tallies. We just built a custom cable and get all 8 tally lights off our 1M/E.

To use the setup we have you need some soldering skills, a DB25 connector, and two DB15 connectors. After that it's literally wiring up the contact closures.

I would suggest finding someone with some basic component wiring skills. The pinouts for the GPI/Tally box are on the box itself, and the tally light interface pinouts can be downloaded from Datavideo.

Basically though, the GPI/Tally interface is just a box full of contact closure relays. Connect the box to the same network as the ATEM and use the USB cable / software to set the IP to connect to. As you switch, it will follow the contact closure (tally) for the appropriate camera.

Jahntassa, it sounds, like you connect the tally/gpi-box to a datavidio tally-controller (ITC-100 ?). Am I right ? If yes, there is intercom too

Or do you only use the small indicator boxes for the cameras ?

But this is still difficult to understand for me. I looked for on the internet guide for this but nobody made description. Maybe we can make guide step by step on this forum ? i.e.
1. Buy Tally/GPI interface
2. Prepare....
3. Add .....

Is this possible ?

What abot my question ? Do you use the ITC-100 or only the small Datavideo indicator-boxes for clip at the camera ?

If ITC-100, here or at Atemuser.com was a circuit diagram for build the cables ....

Also here or at Atemuser, there was a description for a simple tally light system.

The BM-Tally-Box gives you some relay-contacs. So you can use them as a switcher in a simple circuit with a power supply and ligths. As cable, you can use simlple and cheep telephone cord.

if you dont have already bought a GPI-Intercom-Box, you may create your own one.

Take a look on this circuit, its created for use with a [CORRECTED:] Android with MetaControl Software.

At the right side, there are two driver ULN2803a. The Inputs are connected to a latch 74hc573. Instead of this connetction, you should conncet the driver to IO-ports af a Arduino. I think, soldering is done at one evening. (Re-) Programming the Arduino another.

The driver schould drive some LEDs. If more power is needed, you may use a relay board.

The METATally system was actually designed to work with the Android METAControl app and connects to an Android tablet or mobile phone via USB. The pro version of the METAControl app has been extended by Deti and now includes the code to drive the tally system with both preview and program tally information. It can be used with any of the ATEM switchers.

Even if you don't use the METAControl app to switch you could still use it to drive the tally system provided you have a wireless router and a spare Android device with Android 4.0 or later.

However the circuit has an extension socket so if you leave the PIC and associated parts out you could drive it from a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino or whatever. Alternatively you could still use the USB facility provided you added the code for that to whatever controller you would be using.

I have actually implemented the METATally system at church where we use the METAControl app so now we have both red and green tally on our cameras using LEDs driven straight from the OC outputs via 1K resistors. Beats having the camera operators trying to remember if they are On Air or not. The system connects to our cameras with Cat5 cables that also carry two way camera talk back, program sound and 12v supply.

The system is a DIY project and all information to make it can be found on the metatally dot com website. PCBs are also available to make construction easy.

My church is using:
3 Hitachi Z4000w studio cameras on triax, each with mounted GM-51 viewfinder/tally.
We remotely control shade using the RC-Z3 on the TU-Z3A Base station.
We are wanting to begin change over from Globecaster to the ATEM system.
Question 1:
Am I able to connect directly to the tally out of the TU-Z3A from the BM tally interface or will I need to create an interface connection to send voltage to the GM-51 viewfinder/tally lights?

I don't know much RCUs, but some from Panasonic and JVC. At theese you have only to close a contact to illuminate tally at camera. (No voltage !!! only connection). Try it with a simple wire.....

If it works, you don't need additional hardware to the tally-box.
