OMG... I'm soooo stupid :) Thanks a lot... I own two BMPCC4K, but I never thought, the camera setup could do anything on the BMMSC4KG2, except installing a new firmware... which there isnt, anyway...

and YES, I've read the full manual when I ordered this camera, but this was months ago... :(

thanks again, it works now!

Holy #@$%, it's even better: when I'm in camera setup tool on a PC in the same network, when I connect the cam, it's autodetected and I get remote full access...

nice, ftp & http works...

Today I got all 6 Micro G2's and I saw that it comes with Gyro Stabilisation. Yeah, that's so great and the image quality is great. What a cam.

I did quite some tests with gyro, even with gyroflow..
a lumix 14mm, 45 degree shutter angle, but I'm not very satisfied with the results... did you test yet?

Hopefully someone can answer this...

The original Micro Studio 4K supported RAW over SDI...

Can someone confirm if this is still the case with the G2?

I just watched a video on YouTube and the guy said Blackmagic confirmed to him there is a problem with the gyro data.

I just learned painfully, that the framerate can't be changed in the menu or via REST API if the HDMI connection is active (? to an ATEM switcher ?) , as the HDMI framerate then determines the so called "Project Frame Rate". At least mentioning this in the manual would have been helpful....

again I hope, someone from Blackmagic is reading this:
when in the audio menu, it's a pity that you dont see live audio levels for setting the gain right...
it's click and guess, exiting the menu, checking, going back into menu and so forth...

BTW: what's the right way to have some BMMSC4kG2 firmware whishlist placed in the forum? another thread?

thanks

For now the only way to lock them is through an Atem. There is no provision for burst or tri-level sync on the camera.

Can I power the camera from a 14.8V battery via D-Tap, without a regulator?

The BMPCC4k can take 12-20V, so unregulated works fine and I have done this for years.

However, the Micro G2 only says 12V - I can't find anything that indicates it can take a range.

Blackmagic confirmed to me that the input range for the Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 is 12V to 19.6V.

I came across the same issue. We only do livestreaming, and are completely FHD HDMI-based here. So in order to change the camera's framerate, I had to dig up a 4K monitor to plug into, because the BMSSC 4K will not output anything on an FHD monitor (but has no problem connecting to an (FHD) ATEM Mini). This is very unfortunate. It would be really nice to have way more control over the camera settings, either from ATEM Software Control or network (Camera Setup only allows some basic, mostly networking stuff).

My second issue is with the temperature. Will have to grab my IR cam to check it, but the HDMI plug was already too hot to touch. Is that to be expected?

The camera outputs FHD on both outputs.

The Atem (like most pro CCUs) overrides local, and remote (it seems), control of many functions.

When I first ran this "test" I realized after a couple hours that I hadn't planned my day very well. I recorded 2 hours and 10 minutes of 12:1 before the card was full and the battery was still at 80%.

TLDR: Ultimately I got 9 hours and 10 minutes from an IDX iMicro 98.

The camera was connected to an electronic lens (Lumix 12mm) and continually recording to a Samsung USB C drive, which needed to be cycled several times. I scrubbed the footage from each cycle before reformatting, no issues.

The 256 GB drive will record Q0 up to 30fps. I was initially a little surprised the drive worked as well as it did. I was unkind to the media and never lost a frame. I would let the drive fill to the bitter end, each time with no issues. I expected to lose the footage after the power died and still the footage was good.

Good Luck

Do you mean you ran the test you have described with a non-regulated cable?

What have you mounted v-mount plate to in this photo? Is it a dummy LP-E6 with female screw threads...?

Howard,

That's a nice design.
Is the dummy battery just PLA or some other stronger filament?

I don't think that print will be very useful as there's hidden geometry specific to the Smallrig plate.

This might work better. Don't know what else I might need to attach, fiber IO, wireless, tally?

Exposure Issue

I have just got this camera and it it is working brilliantly except for the auto exposure which consistently under exposes by around 2 stops. I have tried it with two different lenses - Panasonic Leica 15mm 1.7 and Olympus 12-40 2.8 and both under expose the same. The Panasonic lens also flickers backwards and forwards between stops. Has anyone else had similar problems? I can set exposure manually through the menu but it is a real pain.

I cant help you on your real issue, but did you realize, that you can change the aperture on the up/down arrows stepwise? I would love to see this as a configurable setting to use up/down eg. for ISO as well... then it would be usable again...

The Lumix 12mm f1.4 exhibits the same exposure chasing behavior. Even manual aperture control is steppy.

The Panasonic BGH1 has a couple fundamental advantages when it comes to exposure. The first is that aperture is remotely available in 1/10th stops and the changes ramp smoothly. The second is an EI, using the exposure index I can decide where I want the exposure to land. The BGH1 overexposes (to my taste) so I use an EI of -1 2/3.

I would consider the ability to smoothly shade a live camera fundamental to operation in a studio environment. There’s currently no way to shade a live micro cam without it looking like a mistake.

Have you tried using the Blackmagic Zoom Demand with the onboard dial set to adjust iris? I used this in a studio setup on the Olympus 12-50 and it was a pretty smooth adjustment stopping down.

It’s good news if that works because it would indicate more sophisticated mapping exists. My cams are all remote so local control is of little assistance.

If Blackmagic is able to add the ability for the MSC4KG2 to _play_ its BRAW video clips from an external SSD (via a firmware update), that will probably get me to buy a MSC4KG2 instead of the new PYXIS 6K camera. Here's hoping ...
