UltraStudio recorder 3G (no signal)

I have two UltraStudio recorders (3G) plugged into thunderbolt ports on my MacBook Pro. The Desktop Video Setup recognizes the devices but does not show a resolution being received. I have one set to SDI from a video camera and the other set to HDMI receiving signal from another MacBook computer.

Is there a trick to getting signal, 1080i or 720p, to pass through the device and become visible in zoom or OBS? My apps recognize the device, but they do not see a video signal.

Hi, which MacBook do you have? I read somewhere here UltraStudio is not working with Apple Silicon based Macs.

Best regards

I don’t believe they autodetect frame rate and resolution, you need to configure the input in the Desktop Video software.

Good Luck

@floh79 I use 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 on Mac OS Ventura Version 13.5.2. I think it is some kind of disconnect on the drivers maybe or a setting restriction maybe. I've had it work on this computer before but it is always a little tricky to get the Video Setup software to indicate that it is receiving a signal. Usually it will indicate a resolution that it is receiving if it sees it.

today plugged in a ultra studio mini recorder also, it required an update. I opened desktop video setup and again it saw the devices but no video resolution or frame rate is listed. But, upon following other recommendations, I opened Media express and that was the key. It recognized both devices and the resolutions popped up in desktop video setup. Now I can attach these inputs to zoom or obs. Thanks all

I have a similar problem, on my Macbook Pro M1, and Ultrastudio Recorder 3G Capture Card.
Desktop Video and Media Express normally recognize the capture card with the camera image. However, no other software recognizes the Capture card (OBS, Zoom, Teams, Sportscode). The problem started after upgrading to macOS Sonoma.

Any luck on this? I have the same issue... The card is recognised in Desktop Video Setup but does not show up as a video source / input (It actually does in OBS) but not in QuickTime / zoom etc.

I now have the same problem. Two Ultrastudio Recorders which worked in OBS on Tuesday… and after changing NOTHING, only one of them worked on Wednesday.

Both of mine seemed to be sending resolution/frame rate to DV, and OBS could see both devices… but no matter what I tried, only one of them would pass video.

I uninstalled everything, deleted remaining preference files, put Sonoma (14.4.1) into low-security mode using startup options, and reinstalled the latest DV package from BM. Still got a prompt that I had to manually allow an extension, for some reason, but I clicked "Allow" in security preferences.

Also updated OBS (which is HARROWING when you've got a show scheduled for that afternoon).

Currently running a Mac Studio M3 Ultra with Sonoma 14.4.1, Sony a7 and a6000 cameras.

If anyone finds a solution to this problem, I'll be thrilled.

I too have the same issue. The recorder is detected in the blackmagic desktop software and it also detects in Zoom but not in OBS and Quicktime Player. Any help?
