I playout videos from a Windows 7 laptop via HDMI using Matrox DVI-Convert set to 720p/5994...works great. The videos are normally commercials that are assembled and formatted in Premiere Pro, then exported as a single MP4 file in Apple TV format (H.264 720p @ 2997, Matrox upconverts to 5994). For audio I actually just tap into the computer speaker or headphone output and connect it to the ATEM RCA-In jacks...
Matrox will work with Mac no problem.
Using Apple TV hardware is problematic because of the single HDMI output and no real ability to preview.
Hope this helps.
