I am trying to key a camera facing a greenscreen over a laptop output (weather map) in another input.
I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to work

The ATEM TV Studio Pro HD is equipped with an upstream keyer that's perfect for chroma keying with green screens. This keyer can work with various elements such as chroma, patterns, shapes, and linear keys, which is useful for your weather map overlay setup.
What I would recommend to do is to watch this cool tutorial video at
. I think it's very relevant to your situation.
Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, watched that a ton trying to figure it out. Its a different model than the one I have.
My main issue is, it only gives me 3 slider bars to fine tune the keying.
Gain
y suppression
lift
None of them really help, only make it worse

Hmm... You can also try a different approach. The three sliders you mentioned – Gain, Y Suppression, and Lift – are critical for fine-tuning the key.
My suggestion would be to start with Gain. It adjusts the intensity of the chroma key. Too high, and you might get some spill; too low, and the key might not be clean.
Try to get a decent key without worrying about the spill or shadows first. Once you have a satisfactory key, use Y Suppression to manage any spill, and then fine-tune with Lift for shadow details.
It can be a bit of trial and error, but patience is key (no pun intended!).
Cheers!

I have the same model switcher - the TV Studio Pro HD. The chroma keying on it is limited, as you point out. In all of the tutorial videos I have watched, their setting options look differently - they all have "Chroma Sample" and spill suppression, and a little preview window. Are those options only available on the 4K model switchers?
Thanks
Patrick

If you look at the Blackmagic section on ATEM switchers, you can tell which switchers has which chroma keyer by looking for the word “Advanced”.
Newer ATEM switchers come with the Advanced Chroma Keyer, which has additional features like Chroma Sample, Spill and Flare Suppression. The older ATEM switchers, which your TV Studio HD seems to fall under, has the older, more basic chroma keyer.

Hi Adam,
I am just seeing this response now, 3 months later. ( I need to make sure I am getting notifications sent when I receive responses here). In any case, this is a belated "thank you" for the information.
Where do I find this Blackmagic section you mention? Is this a listing somewhere on their website?
I am guessing that the TV Studio HD is not compatible with the Advanced Chroma Keyer...in which case, I'll need to replace it, but I'd like to confirm that first.
Thanks again.

The Television Studio HD has the Advanced Chroma Key. This information will be listed on the specifications page for each product. I hope this helps.

At the top of their website's main page it says Support. Easy and intuitive from thereon in.

Thanks Gary, but I have the Television Studio HD switcher and do not have the Advanced Chroma Key option. I am running v 9.2.1. Is the Advanced Chroma Key something I need to download & install separately?

I'm sorry, you are correct and I was wrong. The TVS HD has the earlier Chroma Key. Sorry for any confusion there. I usually start with all controls at zero on that type. Then in Preview, adjust the Hue control to null out the key color so green would become gray as best you can. I often like to put color bars in the background and use a wipe transition to fine tune the hue and the rest of the controls. Slowly bring up the other controls for best look. Once you adjust them a few times, you will get used to what they do. I hope this helps.

OK thanks, Gary. Which model do you recommend purchasing that would be otherwise equivalent to the TV Studio Pro HD but with the Advanced Chroma Key features? Does the TV Studio Pro HD8 have that capability?
The issue I am having is that I find I need more spill suppression than what the basic chroma keyer offers. And if an upgrade is needed in order to get that, that's what I will do.

The best replacement for the TVS HD would be the 1ME Constellation HD. And it's the same price. The TVS HD8 also has the Advanced Chroma Key. All currently listed ATEMs on our site have the Advanced Chroma Key. You could also consider one of the Ultimatte models.
