Avermedia C875 for recording the TVS HDMI output

PostMon Mar 03, 2014 10:04 am

We use a TVS at church running on 1080I-50Hz and record on a laptop with MX Light.

I am looking for a low cost backup recording system and nosing around the net came across the Avermedia C875 game recorder. Reading the specs it seems to be able to do the job by itself in the PC free mode and record to an SD card.

Question now is this, is there anyone who uses this unit as a stand alone HDMI recorder and could you please share your experience with it.

Have not had any response so I have taken the plunge and ordered a unit on eBay.
Will report in due time how it goes.

Received the unit a few days ago and did some initial tests running it in the PC free mode. The operation is simplicity itself, plug in the SC card, 5V power, the HDMI cable and push the button, that's it. There a couple of recording mode options in the PC free mode that can be set when the unit is connected to a PC.

Initial tests show that it is going to do its job as backup recorder just fine. Tested it with a consumer camera and I could not tell the difference between the direct picture and the replay. So I am a happy chappie seeing that our recordings finish up on DVD and Vimeo anyway.

I have one and use it in PC free mode.
The big bummer is that it will only record in .ts mode and you have to use the supplied .ts to mp4 converter if you need a h.264 file (which is what I need).

In PC mode is has the option of either .ts or mp4 recordings.

Otherwise it works great for producers to leave a shoot with the SDHC card and the shoot recorded in HD.

I am guessing the .ts file should also work with Toast to produce a quick Blu-ray without any further encoding. I will try that out at some time.

(ps. their PC tech requirements says min 4gig ram and the PC I was testing it on has only 2gig so that is interesting... ;) )
