Web Presenter HD - Sonoma M3 - Zoom Inverted Color

PostThu Feb 22, 2024 3:42 pm

Summary
I am using a MacBook M3 with Sonoma 14.12.1 and when using the latest version of Zoom with my WebPresenter HD (latest firmware), I am getting inverted color but only in Zoom. Not on Quicktime or Google Meet.

Hardware
Macbook Pro M3
Sonoma 14.12.1
Web Presenter HD (about 4 years old)
Latest Zoom

Attempts
[*]IRestarting and upgrading Zoom with no change in results
[*]Changing color profiles on my MacBook Pro with no change in results
[*]Use WebPresenter via Quicktime and Google Meet and these had the correct color

I will upload some photos for more clarity. The first is the original image I downloaded from the internet. The next two are screenshots from my computer. The camera was not really balanced well, but enough to get the idea. Thank you.

Yeah, that's a YCrCb signal being displayed YCbCr. If it was a regular component vs. RGB issue you'd see the familiar magenta/green issue which manifests with a dramatic luma shift. This appears to be a straight swap of the component red and blue channels.

This is a bug, there is no practical application of inverting the red and blue channels of a component signal. There is no YCbCr colorspace so there's no flag for the Webpresenter to be sending incorrectly. Likely this mis-interpretation is coming from the Zoom side. Check for updates and patches.

Edit: Component analog is YPbPr, digital component is YCrCb. Probably a crossed patch in the code.

Good Luck

Thank you, Howard.

What a great mini class in signal processing. It is much appreciated.
