ATEM TV Studio / Sony Vegas Pro / capture question...

PostMon Mar 03, 2014 9:46 pm

I record online classroom lectures. In the past we have just used 1 camera. And we connected the camera to the PC via firewire However, we now want to use 1 camera and a pc input (to show power point slides). We also wanted to move to HDMI technology. So, we got the ATEM TV Studio switcher.

My immediate thought was that I'd be able to bring in each of the video feeds and use the Black Magic Control Panel w/monitor to switch feeds... while capture recording with Sony Vegas Pro 10. I quickly discovered that Media Express was the only capture software that works with the ATEM via USB. I do not like the Media Express interface. I'd like to use Vegas Pro.

So, do I need to get a Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Recorder PCIe Capture Card or Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro - HDMI and Analog Editing Card to be able to capture video through Sony Vegas Pro? If so, does it matter which one?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have not had any luck with the Mini Recorder card and Sony Vegas. The DUO works fine but is
SDI not HDMI. Can't answer on the Intensity Pro.

Intensity Pro works with Sony Vegas capture (I am using v12 though). No experience with mini recorder though
