Using multiple DeckLink cards

PostTue Mar 04, 2014 5:06 pm

Hello,

I am using a DeckLink Mini Recorder along with a DeckLink Mini Monitor on a Windows 7 64 bit computer.
The computer satisfies the minimum requirements for the cards. However, when I use them (actually the recorder) for streaming/capturing video using a simple video capture software like VirtualDub on windows the system crashes with the blue screen. (Attached images)

The device selection (shown in image) lists two DirectShow filters even though it should be listing one. On quitting the software, the system crashes.

Could someone explain how to avoid this?

What are your system specs? It may satisfy the use of 1 card but not necessarily 2

I would pull one of the cards and see if you have the same problems. If you still see the BSOD pull them both and uninstall the drivers. Hopefully pinpoint the culprit.

I have another problem concerning dual decklink 4k extreme cards, the computer simply won't work with two.
If I unplug one, it work fine. If I remove the GPU card, they work also. What can I do? I've assembled 4 identical machines with this configuration, Dual DeckLink 4K Extreme. Please help!

We don't test for running dual cards here but it is possible with either our SDK or another 3rd party app from my understanding. As far as system specs goes, it would be dependent on if your system has the required resources to handle both cards.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

We have assembled similar machines before without problems, the only difference between the old machines (that are up and running) and this 4 new ones is that the Intel MoBo we used is no longer available, and the new i7 Extreme processors are now Ivy Bridge, all the rest is the same.

Sounds like your motherboard can't cope with it. What motherboard are you using?

Then that's probably the problem, your board only has 16 bus lanes through the CPU, and all your 16x slots are fed through those same 16 lanes. 4 slots are fed through the PE8747 chip and then switch between that chip and the last 16x slot. If you really want to be able to have 2 of those cards in at the same time then you probably need to be looking at an x79 board or a new dual Xeon board

Oh my, you are right... but the i7 Extreme CPU only have 16 lanes, if I simply change the MoBo it will work?

I'm not sure what you mean, the 2011 pin CPU's have 40 lanes

That's not a 2011 pin, that's a laptop processor. The one you want is this the 4930K not the 4930MX

Apologies for the delay. The specs, I believe, are sufficient for the cards.

Currently, I am using the Mini Recorder only. And, it works fine. I haven't tried using the Mini Monitor by itself. I can do that and report back.
