How To: Operate 2 m/e's during live worship service

PostTue Mar 05, 2024 10:08 pm

Hello,
I am seeking help, tips and information on how to effectively run 2 mix effects simultaneously for a worship service. We want to be able to send Cameras and different multi-media/graphics to in house projectors and screens while also running a 2nd m/e for live stream. The main issue I am having is figuring out how to get different graphics and media to the live stream without them showing up in house and vise versa. Currently we just send M/E 1 Prgm into our encoder for the stream.

Hardware we have:
- ATEM Constellation 2 M/E (Switcher+video hub)
- iMac running ATEM software control. We just use the standard keyboard and mouse for switching/operating Atem software control.
- Mac Studio with Pro Presenter 7 running all graphics/media for all screens
- Decklink Quad 2 housed in a Sonnet expansion chassis with multiple connections to the ATEM Constellation
- We already have a separate Audio mix and board for stream so we do have separation for audio.

Screens: (all connected into the ATEM via direct SDI or converted to SDI)
- We run 2 side projectors getting M/E 1 Prgm and one large projector on stage getting graphics and lyrics from Pro Presenter in the main auditorium
- We have 1 confidence monitor for the stage
- We have 3 TV's in the lobby 2 running announcement slides and 1 getting M/E 1 Prgm
- We run 1 Prgm feed to a monitor in the stream audio room so they can see the stream and audio levels
- We run 1 Prgm feed to a classroom TV as overflow backup for larger Sundays/Events

I know our switcher can run the 2nd M/E... What I don't know is if I can run the 2nd M/E for the stream without getting a new graphics computer and Atem software control computer. I am not sure if there is a way to rout things to allow Graphics/videos from Pro Presenter to play on stream while slides or lyrics are playing in house.

an example of what we want to do is have intro and outro videos for online without playing the video or audio in house.

The second ME is entirely independent of the first, how are you monitoring ME2?

Good Luck

Hi Howard,

We currently do not monitor/use M/E 2

We have 1 monitor displaying Multi-view 1 next to the iMac that runs Atem Software control.

I was wondering if there is a way to route feeds from the ATEM and Pro Presenter 7 to allow for one person to cue up videos for stream without them displaying in house.

From what I have already looked into it seems like you would need another ATEM Software control computer to separately switch the 2nd M/E.

I have also seen that hyper decks and or another Pro Presenter machine might be the only way to truly separate in house and live stream content.

But, if anyone has a work around they have discovered I would love to know.

Make sure your panels in house have audio turned completely down

I'd suggest looking into clean feeds and using DSK1 and DSK2

Large stage projector gets an AUX output that is the ProPresenter fulltime
I am guessing that the confidence monitor would also be another AUX output that is ProPresenter fulltime

Out of house panels gets ME1 Program
Live stream encoder gets ME1 Program

Pre/Post show rolls that contain audio -- assuming you can get discreet audio for your house audio mix and keep embedded audio in the video source. For stream only, use AFV when playing them back so the embedded audio goes to overflow and stream.

Side Projectors get CleanFeed 1 or 2, depending on which DSK you put the ProP content on.
This will allow you to switch cameras as you would for IMAG and stream, then use DSK1/2 to put in your FSCG or L3 onto stream without affecting the IMAG

For sure you could try doing an IMAG swtich using ME2 and then cascade that into ME1 for overflow and stream, but that'll get you sideways pretty quick.

Have a look at Bitfocus Companion and optionally a USB attached Streamdeck. With companion, you can configure a buttonpress to change many attributes simultaneously, like your auxes, what is on ME1 program, what is on ME2 program, etc.

I freelance for two different churches that run two different M/Es for in-house display and livestream broadcast. They both do it the same way but one automates it and the other doesn't.

Here's the basic gist of what both churches are trying to accomplish. During the message or anytime someone is talking, both the in house screens and live stream broadcast are showing the same thing. However, during worship sets the in house screens are showing graphics and lyrics and the livestream broadcast is showing live video of the band with lower third lyrics.

One church automates the switching of the in house screens by using RossTalk and ProPresenter. Basically when they get to the first slide for the worship set, it triggers RossTalk which is then triggering companion which is talking to the ATEM.

Essentially you are always switching on 1 m/e....but the 2nd m/e is the in house. And when it's time to make them be the same, then the 2nd m/e is carrying the output from the 1st m/e. When the outputs need to be different, the 2nd m/e is iso'd to the pro presenter computer.
