BM Decklink QUAD HDMI Windows 11 audio problem

PostSun Mar 17, 2024 9:09 pm

Hi all,

I have been using a Quad HDMI with no problems for a good couple of years on windows 10 then Windows 11 with the Microsoft updates.

I do not put this PC online very often, as it is subject to interference, and it did a whole bunch of Microsoft (really?) updates, which appear to have caused a problem with audio capture.

I now have a problem with audio capture, where the audio is subject to a little interference, which makes the audio quality poor and I have to go through the PITA of a rebuild, as a result a little more commentary.

'There can be a problem with Live broadcasts misused via either the CDN (Cloudfront or Akamia) or from sourcing streams directly. I use this card to capture live broadcasts and post compare them to stored versions of the same live broadcast, from time to time. In our region you can find differences, be it single words inserted or entire sentences, as well as various other types of manipulation. These appear to be able to be directed at multiple or a single stream.

If this is a problem in your region you can negate some of it by introducing a buffer at the edge of your premises. Capture the stream live, rebroadcast it within your premises and then view it locally with a few minute delay. This buffer removes one of the main attacks, which is generally combined with an audio feedback channel. of some sort."

If I record using the BM media express app the audio seems fine.

If I listen to the audio while capturing using windows sound settings I can hear the interference.

If I use Audacity to record and monitor I get a few seconds clear audio and then the interference starts. If I restart the recording, clear again for a few seconds then interference.

I am keen to understand if anyone else has similar problems with up to date Windows 11 or if the Quad HDMI card Audio capture aspect is working well for you with latest patches.

Going to rebuild Windows 11 and see if this makes any difference. Then onto Linux if it is still a problem.

If anyone wants some memory dumps for analysis before I flatten the machine let me know.

Good luck :)
