SDI cable termination question

PostSun Mar 09, 2014 12:49 am

Based on information on this forum, I am replacing the SVGA cable from our church pulpit laptop to the 1 M/E with Belden 1885A coax. I have run the wires. (A pain to due to existing conduct limitation which is why I had to use 1885A.) Today, I attempted to install some BNC ends. When I went to put the center pin on the cable, the wire will not fit into the center pin. I tried cutting the center wire a couple of different times and tried a second BNC connector, but it really looks like the wire is just too big for the pin.
The coax is labeled "BELDEN 1885A" and I don't think it is bogus cable.
The ends I am using are individually packaged and labeled "Emerson 28-9105775 OHM BNC(M) Crimp-on, 3PC, FOR 735A, Belden 1855a & 8218".
Has anyone else experienced any problems with these Emerson BNC connectors?

First off, I will assume you meant to type 1855 and not 1885, since Belden 1885 is a CAT6 UTP cable.

I'm pretty sure this is the connector you are talking about:
https://emersonconnectivity.com/OA_MEDI ... -91057.pdf
The drawing shows a 0.020" hole for the center conductor. Whereas the Belden 1855 drawing shows a 0.023" center conductor. So even though the connector claims to work with that coax, it's drawing says otherwise.

I have on occasion, had a similar situation and had to steal a center pin from an RG-6 connector for use with an RG-59 shell. It happens. And you have to have similar models of the same brand of connector for this to work.

I've always hated AIM connectors. (a division of Emerson).
Bomar brand 310A205FV2 model should work for you. I've always like the quality as well as price of Bomar brand. http://www.masterelectronics.com/winche ... p=10763488 has some in stock. But there are others out there, just make sure to really look at the specs.

Do you happen to know if the KTH-5003 die will fit my Crimpex C (Amp 220190-1-B) tool?
