Wireless HD sdi for Steadicam Teradek Bolt?

PostMon Mar 10, 2014 7:08 am

I am looking for suggestions for a Wireless HD Sdi transmission system for a EX3 on a Steadicam rig mainly forr sports outside (Baseball Football) or inside Basketball. Shooting in 720p and looking at the Teradek Bolt, into an Atem studio or Atem 1 m/e 4K ?

Thanks

I'm a big fan of Paralinx wireless HD although it's natively an HDMI solution. They do have a accessory (Crossbow) that will convert it to SDI, but our prosumer cameras use HDMI. I use it with our Atem 1 M/E. Works great as a wireless roaming camera for concerts to feed to a video board. We shoot at 720p @ 60fps.

I don't think the Bolt will get you the distance you want. I would recommend the Cube instead.

You would want the the Bolt 2000....the only way to get a football field distance via the cube would be through a network or 4G which will create a 20-45 second delay. Not good for sports.

The Bolt 2000 is a Bolt on steroids. I can verify the distance is 2000 feet and is 0 latency up to 1080p. There is maybe a 1/2 frame delay but not noticeable in any way. I have been using Teradek products for the past 2 years and continue to build our events with them.

I think Teradek and Paralinx use the same manufacturer out of China or wherever these things are made since the Bolt 2000 looks exactly like the Tomahawk. I can't vouch for the Tomahawk since I don't own it, but if it's anything like the Arrow I'm sure it's amazing. I know Dan from Paralinx sometimes posts on these forums and he's a really great guy.

Bolt 2000 tx+rx combo: $7990
Paralinx Tomahawk tx+rx combo: $6990

One thing I just noticed is the Paralinx tx has HDMI input, and rx has SDI output. A SDI tx is supposedly coming this year. Where as the Bolt 2000 has SDI on both tx and rx.

If it is coming this year, it will be on display at NAB in a few weeks.

Yes, Paralinx and Teradek do use the same chipset for the long range transmitters. What sets Teradek apart is the value added to the unit. For example, we're the only device on the market with this chipset that has a 3G-SDI input and a better voltage range of 6-28V.

We have a number of big surprises for this family of products at NAB so keep an eye on our upcoming announcements! ;)
