Davinci live replay

PostSun Apr 14, 2024 8:27 pm

I've seen Grant's demonstration of the live replay feature in Davinci Resolve and I'm a bit loss. The fact that the demo was with a cooking show instead of a sport event shows me that not even Blackmagic believes that this feature is suitable for live use. It looks like a feature that was programmed by a couple of engineers who never talked to live replay professionals.
An ice hockey game is so fast that you don't have time to constantly switch back and forth between different views. And how do you create a playlist in no time with the most spectacular scenes?
The tags seems to be a good idea, but they still need to be expanded massively to be able to use them effectively.
What is your opinion?

Yes .. I have the same opinion ..

Maybe BMD create any new page layout in Resolve later , especially for replays ..
And the system will be little expensive ..
U need something for recording .. 4-8 Hyperdecks .. They said , that u can ATEM mini ISO in the future ..
Cloud Store .. expensive ..
Its ok maybe, if U need more stations for replays ..

But for cheaps replay station is VMIX still no1 ..

I was a bit lost after the demo. I think Grant didn't do a very good job demoing it. It looked a bit chaotic. Also that they used their standard cooking show for the demo was, well... not the best choice. It shouldn't be too hard for BMD to get their hands on proper multi-cam sports footage for which they own the rights, even if it's just amateur or college level.

The Cloud Store with Hyperdecks solution is already getting in the same price category as some of the cheaper proven replay solutions. So I doubt it will be a solution that many will choose. We will have to see how it works with the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. With the history of pretty unreliable ISO recordings across the entire Mini ISO range I don't have very high hopes to be honest.

The cool thing is that they’ve solved continuous recording with the Cloudstore. Still, the system Grant demo’d represents about 20K in hardware. For that kind of investment I can see the desire for a standalone app, which somebody is likely developing, it seems the key component is the Cloudstore.

Good Luck

It’s impressive that they leveraged Resolve to create a replay solution, but I can’t see a situation where I would use this over vmix.
