Is Anyone Using the ATEM 4K With a Computer As A Input?

PostWed Mar 12, 2014 2:29 am

If yes, how? Are you using a Scaler/Converter?

Thanks,
-Rob

If it´s the same as with the ATEM TVs the computer have to output what the ATEM accepts as input. I´m thinking you maybe do not need a scaler but the right video card that allow the right resolution output for your second desktop/external monitor that the ATEM accepts.

I've plugged in my Retina MacBook Pro via HDMI and it worked fine under 4k. Of course it would be even better if you could plug more than one computer in to it running in 4k!

depends on what sort of thing your using the computer for as well. If its just video playback then a decklink would suit the needs, they work a treat with it.

@ lotech, So you inputed a signal at 1080P 60 hz over HDMI and it worked or does the Macbook pro allow you to choose 59.94.

@ Sam, we do run videos and our Pastor's slides, but mainly its displaying our Song lyrics in a program called EasyWorship.

Thanks,
-Rob

Not too sure, it was just a quick test and we use PAL on this side of the planet so can't confirm NTSC frame rates. Next time I'm near the 4k I'll try and find out though.

Running two PC's into the 4k, there's a scale converter attached to it which is set to whatever the ATEM is set to, however, I tend to run the machines at the same res as the switcher due to loss of fidelity.

@ Matt Hoving: could you tell us the make and model and input out put type of your scaler/converters.

***UPDATE***
I received a StarTech VGA to HDMI converter with scaler. (Model # VGA2HDMIPRO) Input is VGA and output is HDMI I let the input side auto detect my computer resolution and i set the HDMI output side to 720P 60 and the ATEM 4K sees it as in input. IT WORKS!!! I'm using the latest ATEM 4K firmware

Please share your success with the ATEM 4K. I've spoken with BMD Tech support who informed me that the 4K is not working as well as the older ATEM TVS model regarding 60 vs. 59.94. They said they are working on it.

Thanks,
-Rob

My Datavideo DAC-70 arrived today. It boasts that it will converter any VGA or HDMI input to an HDMI or SDI output with a YUV colorspace and 1080/720p 59.94. I'll keep you posted.

In regards to the high frame rates, I can understand why they may not be working as well. This could be down to the fact that the focus of this model is 4K video which is only supported up to a frame rate of 30fps. Anything higher than that and it will cost a lot more. I do believe though that the 4K may be able to handle higher frame rates in future for 4K but i can understand that the high frame rates may have limitations due to ensuring that the 4K works.

If you’re plugging a computer with HDMI compatibility into the HDMI inputs of the ATEM switcher, then be sure that the monitor settings on the computer are set to the correct resolution and frame rate. If you’re using 1080i video, then your monitor needs to be 1920 x 1080 resolution. If you’re running 720p on your switcher, then your monitor needs to be set to 1280 x 720 resolution. If you are using NTSC then your monitor needs to be 720 x 486. If you are using PAL then your monitor needs to be set to 720 x 576. The frame rates also need to match.
