PTT on Camera Fiber Converter

PostWed Apr 24, 2024 2:44 pm

Hello.

I've seen multiple old answers around the internet, and wanted to know how the situation is today. Is it still not possible to get/is there a workaround to get push to talk on the Camera Fiber Converter with both the focus demand and directly on the lens when using the 5-pin headset on the converter and not the 3,5 mm on the camera? When we're filming live concerts, it is especially a big pain/impossible for our handheld cam operators to reach around to flip the microphone switch.

Hopefully there is some way to help them :-)

Hey Andreas,

I purchased some Clear-Com CC-400 double muff headsets for my system and they have the unique function of allowing you to use the mic when you pull the boom down to your mouth & then will mute the mic when you push it back up out of the way. They are a little pricey but I have found they work really well in loud environments.

Link to find them on Markertek - https://www.markertek.com/product/clcm- ... n-male-xlr

Peace, Pete

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into it!

Andreas,

I came here looking for the same answer. If you use the Camera Fiber Converter (CFC) with an URSA Camera then the "push to talk" trigger from the camera (usually from the lens VTR button and/or the Zoom Demand) won't trigger talkback on the CFC. I'd love for Blackmagic to implement this feature since that's how it works on other pro cameras, but I'm not sure if there is a data connection path from the camera to the CFC that would pass a talk trigger.

I would think maybe they could have the PTT function activate an 18k audio tone on SDI channel 15, then the CFC simply monitors for that tone on the SDI path from the camera and uses it to open the mic channel on the CFC. You would need two tones though, one for Intercom 1 and another for Intercom 2. Or put the tone on a different SDI audio channel. But I'm getting ahead of myself because this is something Blackmagic would have to find a way to implement. Maybe Gary Adams can shed some light on this topic?
