I have a URSA Broadcast G2 and I am upgrading my lens to a Fujion BUT what Fuijon lens will work with the BM Focus and zoom Demands controls and will that lens work with the BM Fiber Converter and camera controller the lens that I am looking at is the Fujion LA16X8BRM-XB1A

Hi there. The lens that you’re looking at is a BRM which means that it doesn’t have a focus servo, hence, the BMD zoom servo will work but not the focus one. You can buy a mechanical rear focus system but it would be considerably more expensive than the BMD ones. In order to use the BMD focus, you would need to look for a lens with the BRD or BERD suffix, these have a focus servo. The lens should work without issue with the fibre back and camera control. My only concern with this lens would be the electronic back focus. This would be fine if you use it on the same camera all the time. Do you really need 4K? If not, there are plenty of used Fujinon HD lenses to choose from.

We run a couple of Fujinon LA16's with our UB G2's and they're a great pairing both in terms of visual performance and weight.

The one minus for us with that lens is that 16x zoom is not that useful for reasonable-sized concert halls and conference centres (of UK proportions), where you need to cover distances of 30 metres-plus (and cropping just lowers resolution), where a 25x zoom is a typical minimum. If you're in smaller venues or shooting from the side in a larger, then it's a good all-rounder for the price.

In the UBG2 Manual, at page 11, you'll find the following information:

B4 Lenses with iris and zoom control include:
- Fujinon B4 lens models with HA, ZA, XA, UA and LA prefixes in their model name and RM in their suffix. For example, Fujinon XA20sxBRM.
- Canon B4 lens models with HJ, KJ and CJ prefixes and RSE or RSD in their suffix. For example Canon KJ20x8.2B IRSD.

B4 Lenses with full servo control for focus, iris and zoom include:
- Fujinon B4 lens models with HA, ZA and UA prefixes in their name and the letters RD or ZD in the suffix. For example, Fujinon HA22x7.8 BERD.
- Fujinon box lenses with XA and UA prefix in their name.
- Canon B4 lens models with HJ, KJ..ex and CJ prefixes in their name and the letters ASE or ASD in the suffix. For example, Canon HJ24ex7.5B IASE.
- Canon box lenses with XJ and UJ prefix in their name.

Are you sure about this? Fujinon's own documentation would suggest otherwise. See attached picture

I doubt their ad copy would feature BM's demands.

I've used this lens with both the configuration shown above and with the BM units. I don't believe these lenses are compatible with Fujinon's digital (focus) demands which is why the manual focus block is pictured.

100% the BM focus and zoom demands work perfectly with the Fujinon LA16x8BRM 4K lenses. I have two of these exact lens/demand combos for my Ursa Broadcast G2's. What is handy with the BM zoom demand is to configure (via the UBG2 flip-out screen) the rotary knob on to control the Iris.
