ATEM Software Control not responding

When I open ATEM Software Control on my reasonably new Windows PC it displays "Not Connected" in the top left corner but it is infact connected. It is physically connected and I can see the drive attached. After a minute is then displays "Not Connected / not responding) so I go in to task manager to end the program but can't. It has "suspended" as the status. I can spend 15 minutes at the start of each day ending task, reopening, ending task, reopening, it's been a recurring issue since the software was installed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software. I'm at a loss and so frustrated. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
